3.0si SE suspension

Hello all

I would like to sharpen up the handling on my Z4 SE. It's done super low miles so bushes etc wouldn't make a difference, basically want to make it handle more like an M car!

Hoping to change the RF tyres out (Bridgestone) for non-RF Michelins/Contis, but what else can I do? Springs, ARB's etc?

TIA

Bill

I had a 3.0SE and swapped out the tyres for non-runflats and it made a hell of a difference. I also went for Eibach springs and while it improved the ride marginally on good roads it rattled my teeth on potholes and grounded over (not massive) speed bumps... would not recommend that.

Personally, with the prices as they are now I'd suggest chopping it in and buying am M. By the time you've done a load of work on the SE you're probably half way there anyway.

Cripes, that was direct!

£50 for an M ARB for the front from a breakers. Worked a treat on my car to limit body roll you will need new ARB bushes the correct size. The rear one dose not fit the front is a direct swap.

Slightly out of order considering he has only just bought the car.

Out of order, why? Personally (if I had my time again) I would be happy with the 3.0SE... reasonable power, fun to drive etc... but when I had the 3.0 the price differential was massive to the M. Now, if I was not happy with the drive of the SE I'd swap it for the M.... otherwise you're on the road to becoming Jonny Essex, with the world's most expensive non-M Z4.

Apologies to the OP if I came across crass, but I was just stating my opinion. Sure others will be along (as MM already has) and suggest options if you didn't want to swap the car.

Cheers for the inputs gents. No offence taken, I come from an E46 M3 and love the M pedigree but the Z4M isn't for me with the manual box and high tax/insurance costs. I drive in London loads and the auto box suits the 3.0si. The RF's are worse on London roads!

I'll start with the tyres as a first port of call. The rear tyres are quite seated in and don't stick out as much so I will get on a set of rear spacers just for looks - any ideas on what to get?

I am edging towards Michelin PS3's, £550ish for a set of fronts and rears sounds about right unless I can get a good deal on a nice set of alloys and tyres in mint condition

Not sure what make to suggest! But just be very carful buying any smaller than 15mm and if you can get bolt on spacers

Are you running E46 M3 alloys on yours :o I'd love that setup!

Right Goodyear F1's tyres are about £440 then another £40 to fit so £480 fitted doesn't sound too bad?

They are AS2's aswell - Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2

Yep thats the ones, very highly regarded tyre i have them on mine and rate them highly :), you may also want to budget for a full hunter alignment as well to get the best out of the car and its new tyres, this costs between £60 - £120 depending on garage and what needs changing.

With regard to pressures on the new non runlets try 34 PSI Front and 36 PSI and adjust from there to suit your driving style :)

Hope this info helps

Ash - thanks dude. The F1's certainly look good, I think i'll be getting these.

I reckon I could probably sell my RF tyres on just to recoup some of the cost :D

Cheers,

Bill
