3.0i Z4 economy!

Just done 65 miles nice and steady. Not daft slow, just steady.

1/3rd motorway, 1/3rd A/B road, 1/3rd hilly moor roads, 39.2mpg indicated, with a passenger and a full tank too!

Pure motorway at 65-70mph must be nicely into the 40's?

The 3.0i seems really good here, not sure why, I guess it's that long 6th gear. That said the good torque delivery saw me going for 7th gear a few times

Would love an M Z4 Roadster, it's the car that got me into the Z4 generally... but I can't help but thinking the Alpina solution is more my bag and for my kind of driving :)

I wonder what the Alpina 3.4 can manage on a long run...

34 mpg is the highest I've seen it on a long journey

mine is usually at 27 though as I do short journeys and lead foot :D

And I thought I was doing well getting an actual (manually calculated) 31.2mpg average over the past 2000 miles. Mind you, mine's only ever really used as a toy...

Mind you, the computer itself over-reads (well mine does) - is that the readout showing 39.1mpg?!

My computer overreads too.

max Ive ever got is 34 actual calculated - must have a lead foot.... or a thought, how many people switch off the Auto climate and air con controls? Just wondering what impact that has - mine always on unless the roof is down :D

Actually don't know why I measure the mpg on my Z4 - I certainly didn't buy it with economy at the top of my list! Suppose it's a throwback to my days of owning a diesel

But the Z4 is an economical car for the performance level IMO.

These are computer indicated figures, which do seem over by about 1mpg or so.

Still very impressive.

Driving my 306 HDi (book figure 55mpg, but reality 44mpg standard, and 40mpg tuned up), on the same route at much the same speeds saw not much more mpg.
Throw in the fuel cost difference, and the BMW Z4 is actually cheaper all round if driven steadily.

Diesels really don't make sense once they have enough power to be entertaining.

I'm getting 26mpg at the moment! I did have 30 at one point, but that was a 200mile motorway run!

30 is about the best I have had and that was when I first had the car.

Interestingly my JCW MINI S only averaged around 28MPG!

LOL! Same here, I was picking the car up from West Sussex and drove it back to Barnsley LOL!

Not seen 30mpg since!

Mine normally sits at about 28mpg on the computer, just driving really smoothly and not too higher speeds to see and the benefit is rather huge it seems...

I get anything from 23 - 27 around town, the most I have hit on a long run, mostly Motorway (manually calculated)is 38. Quite happy with that.

well on a motorway trip recently, approx 100 miles in the cooper s it read 30mpg !...amazing considering i get 36-38mpg in the z doing the exact same journey :o

According to the computer I've gotten about 33-34 top up cruising along at 75. It's rare I do less than 70/75 on the highway.

I think economy depends mainly on the different 3.0 engine. I have the 06 3.0si ED engine and have seen an average of around 44mpg when cruising at 70 on motorway. For a car with 265bhp and 44mpg is impressive! Always in sports mode!
