So I got home from work early today so decided I'd chop my back box off with a grinder.!!!

Did have the intention of doing the straight through pipes mod. I've just driven the car round the block with no backbox and it's way to loud for my liking. I was after a bit more sound but it's more like thunder plugged into an amplifier.

Anyway I've decide to cut the back box open an re jig the pipes but I was surprised to see no pipes looping around like I've seen in other pics on the forum.

Think I make take one side of the wading out and see what that sounds like.

Any thoughts on this would be very much appreciated :)

Thoughts....? Er madness springs to mind.....The 3.0 makes a great noise already why would you butcher the exhaust to make it louder? I don't get it....,perhaps a sports exhaust if you really must, but chopping it up seems nuts to me.

If it made a great noise I wouldn't be chopping it up.! Personally I think sound is really quite poor

The sound gen mod sounds good but at the end of the day it's just an induction noise. I'd rather have a decent rumble from the exhaust.

Looks normal ... You could just pull the soundproofing out and weld her back up . The box itself will stop the roar but prolly drone .Been yrs since I done it lol

Do you like the sound.?

I used 24 mm bypass pipes . With induction kit .... Sounds we'll not too loud hard to know which end is grunting which was what I personally wanted lol ....... As for box I think it will drone from memory they always did

I'll put it back to normal if it drones. Will put it on in the morning and get an idea of the sound to see if I like it.

Is this what's left of your cat?? :D

Yeah Cherry Bomb is one several others basically it's staight through the muffler pipes which have holes in them, then either fiberglass or stainless steel wool is packed around the pipes inside the muffler.

They make a deep throaty sound on a V8, not sure how they would sound on the 6 cylinder Zed thou.

Possible alternative; Longlife stainless steel exhausts in Birmingham (Steve, Roar Power Limited) offers a T304 Stainlesss steel hand made full system for the E85 3.0 at £525 incl vat and fitting - yes a full system that should flow better and sound better?

I keep looking but think standard sound is ok :driving:

Let us know what you do.....

Just tried it with the insulation removed from the first section and it sounds really nice.

Just debating whether to test it with the other side removed..!!

You've come this far, Do it.
Watchin with interest,

I've just pulled the insulation out from the other side now. Just sealing the lid best I can before I fit it back on the car.

I've also stuck the foam back inside the Sound Generator as I'm trying to get a real idea of sound...

Back under the car in half hour

Let's hear ....

Here is mine although sounds much better under load

I have a Bastuck exhaust on mine and seeing the design of the Original exhaust makes me think about opening it up and basicly connecting the pipes in the muffler and stuffing it, basicly no baffles, just straight through with perforated tubing. If it gives little to no drone and screams at WOT that would be perfect :-) Anyone done that yet on the 3.0i?
