N52 2.5Si - Exhaust mod options?

Hey guys. I keep watching videos of various Z4 setups online, but most seem to have the older M54 3.0 or the newer N52 3.0, and I have a feeling those engines sound different compared to my 2.5Si.

One thing that is clear from the get-go is the deeper rumble and more gurgles/pops on downshift on the bigger engines. I can hear some from mine too but it feels extremely muted in comparison, although a video is not exactly great representation since the mic could be exhaust mounted and that amplifies things.

So what options do I have for my car?

- I don't want to remove the entire back box as I presume that will introduce an insane drone at motorway speeds.
- Is there anything I can do with the existing setup (perhaps remove centre silencer or mod the backbox itself?)

I keep looking at the Supresprint mid-pipe and backbox but unless I hear one in person it's hard to justify the cost only for me to not like it potentially. https://www.supersprint.com/ww-en/supersprint-performance-sport-exhaust-bmw-z4-25si-1.aspx

You can modify the sound generator for extra noise if that’s your thing, lots on here about that

Don't think my car comes with one of those, as the airbox isn't connected to anything. Not really my thing either and definitely not an exhaust mod haha.

You can mod the back box, remove the centre silencer, do both or one or the other, there's a video of all three next to each other somewhere on the forum

Brilliant, I'll see if I can find it. Thanks!

Gurgles and pops are nothing to do with size of the engine. I run a completely stock 3.0Si and exhaust and it doesn’t pop or gurgle at all. My son’s 2.5i is more vocal, but it’s definitely not stock.

No as far as I'm aware only the 3 litre models had the sound generator, but I think it can be retro-fitted. Although that won't give you any exhaust noise.

My 2nd Coupe sounded much better than my first because a previous owner had an after-market cat-back system fitted! My current one sounds better still with after-market back-boxes.

I've heard a 3.0Si with a back-box delete and I wouldn't want to drive it too far - it is definitely loud!

I don't see why a 2.5Si should sound any different to a 3.0Si as it's the same engine just a different size.

If you do change anything it's hard to guess what result you'll get, unless you can find someone who has already had the same installation.

Hope you can find a set up you like.
