23is First Service Issues

Booked my 23is in for its first service on Friday & chaos followed.

Took the car up to the dealer for 8am made the service receptionist come outside with me to check the car over before I left because like most owners on here I am hyper fussy/critical about leaving my car with even the supplying dealer as I wanted to point out that the car & wheels were unmarked.

Told that I would be phoned if the car was ready before 4.00pm which was fine because I had asked them to check a few other issues on the car that I wanted looked at.

No phone call by 3.40pm but thought i'd give them a call as wife was needing to be somewhere & if the car was ready then fine & get wife to run me back up to pick it up.

Nobody avaialable on service reception to speak to me, left my number for them to call, no response by 4.15, called again still no one can speak to me, getting annoyed by now.

Phone call 10 minutes later to say car was ready but a few things needed ordered, back light assembly required as one of the indicator leds was goosed which needs a full new unit apparently, also needs a new brake fluid reservoir as it has a small leak & a new window motor required as reprogram didn't fix the dancing windows issue.

Arrive at the dealers & decide to check the car visually myself before going in to see service people & lo & behold front nearside wheel has been crunched somewhere (19" 326M).

As you can imagine I was fit to burst at this point & mrs robbo trying to calm me down before I go in to see them.
Service manager comes out with us to see this damage & his first comment to me is 'what are we looking for', he then goes on to compound this whole mess by saying that the workshop techs don't really care because its not their car, well you can imagine my state by now, wife is by now doing all the talking because I am speechless at this guys attitude.
He then blames the state of the roads around the garage & the low profile rubber as the cause, needless to say he got a verbal pasting from us about not really caring that our bought new from them Z didn't really matter too much, shocking attitude from him.

Now we have the hassle of getting the car/wheel back up to them to be fixed plus now I am loathe to even consider giving them the car back to do the brake reservoir & window motor replacement.

Shocking behaviour from the dealer & I won't use them again after this fiasco & his attitude :x

PS: does anyone know if the air filter should be changed at first service because it wasn't, seems odd not to after 2 years.

My car had first oil, brake fluid and microfilter change after 12,500 miles (2 years old) this morning. The only advice was to replace two rear tyres (3mm left).

My local dealer was okay. Service advisor phoned me when the car was ready. Everything was done in 2 hours. I also checked for scratch and dent when I collected the car. I was asked if I wanted the car washed. No, thanks. :)

Gut wrenching when other people are reckless with your pride and joy :(

I am tempted to take pictures of my car before leaving anywhere now. That way I hae evidence when I go to pick it up...

Have they offered to fix the wheel?

Hi Adamski,

Yes they have offered to repair the wheel, but it's again the hassle of taking the car back etc, plus I now definitely don't trust them with my pride & joy at all.

Thinking i'll take the wheel off myself & deliver it to them, that way there's less chance of any further issues with them as they've said the wheel repair will take 2 days to be done properly.

It wasn't just the wheel damage as the whole dealership service experience from start to finish was diabolical.

I got bad vibes when I went up to book the car in for the service as the service receptionist was poor to say the least & had zero charisma with her whole approach & personality was non existent.

Should have trusted my gut instinct & taken it elsewhere.

Wouldn't mind just so much, but this place has just spent a fortune on upgrading their whole BMW & Mini showrooms but from my point of view they should have spent some of the cash on staff training & customer focus.

You live & learn.

Every BMW dealer posts star ratings for both sales and service on their website. usually it is somewhere in the about us section.

For example: http://www.halliwelljoneschesterbmw.co.uk/aboutus/star_rating.html

BMW UK should be sending you a survey in a few weeks. Be sure to tell them how you feel.

This is my worst nightmare, and I feel your pain. From what you've described, thats not acceptable.

My dealer are ok - my car was in for 3 days last week and I checked it over when I got it back, no problems and no wash - as requested. When I first used them about 10 years ago I was sure some damage occurred, but only noticed it in the following weeks, so couldn't prove anything (hence why I now fully check it over before leaving). I had a phone survey once and let them have it full and frank....been much better since!

If you don't get contacted for feedback, then I would be tempted to contact someone (not sure who), but these things need to go back, or they will not improve.

Good luck with the wheel.
