23i vs 30i.. or 4 pot?

Honestly I wish I had the patience to wait but I've just not got it in me :D I was all set to buy the blue/cream 23i but had doubts about the engine that were sorta confirmed on here, now I'm poking about a fully loaded well cared for 30i thats got a black interior which i was trying to avoid.. but interiors can be changed right? Getting a good base motor is more important.. i think

Isn't that always the way !? Right colour the wrong motor, shifter, seats, etc, etc. Shopping for a used German car ends in compromise. For me I have 2 absolutes. Must have a gear shift stick. Must not be Black ext. It's driving me nuts how popular black cars have been the last decade or so :headbang:

Was that “montymog” at the Beaulieu meet Lain?
I seem to remember his car

No, it was a guy called Al from Swindon who turned up at one of our Newlands Corner Sunday morning meets.

I thought "montymog" had an automatic E85 - but I might be wrong!

Well I seem to remember him and Fred getting all excited about beige seats and wood!

Ok then folks... so how much slower is the 23i compared to the 30i? Having a search about on the web there are various figures quoted, 0-60mph - 30i/5.5 v 23i/6.2, another site states 0-62mph - 30i/6.1 and the 23i/6.6? :?

Black has always been popular, it never goes out of fashion.
its easy to maintain and repair  , I had ivory seats in my last Jag, went to pick up a mate from day surgery to his knee. When he got out of the car we realised that they had swabbed his leg down with iodine and I was left with a perfect purple imprint of his backside on my passenger seat... black seats ever since

30i manual 5.8 30i auto 6.1 23i manual 6.6 and 23i auto, who cares

I bought my 23i as it was what I could afford and it was a nice car. Have a few times considered moving up to a 30i (including currently) thinking that the 30i maybe isn’t much quicker standing start but more grunt on the move for overtaking etc.

I like my 23i and will drive a 30i but would have to be a manual as I definitely would change to an auto for 0.5 seconds and losing the manual

When I went looking for my Z4 last year I had a set budget and initially wanted an N20 28i manual, then it was pointed out to me that I could save a lot of money buying a 18i and getting it mapped etc so that’s what I did and complimented it with some other appropriate upgrades.I now own a little baby 18i that has far better performance than a 28i and I still have money in the bank.

Why not buy the 23i you looked at and run that while waiting for the perfect 30i to appear, if it ever does.

Who knows, you may find you don't need to change after all.

+1

I feel this is exactly where I am, if the right 30i comes up great, but if it doesn’t I’m happy enough with my 23i.

I would also not rule out replacing it with a newer, better specced 23i if it ticked all the boxes against a 30i that only ticked some of them.

I personally prefer the straight 6 but again wouldn't completely not rule out the right 4 pot either of everything else was right.
