2009 3.0 E89 - Bluetooth Connection

Ahhh fantastic information thank you.
As I say, my USB socket in the armrest appears to be broken, so will need to replace that unit and try again.
I have managed to transfer music by using the USB socket in the glovebox, though.

Just a question; is that software update option available in your menu's when a USB drive is not inserted? As I have no menu at all for software updates currently... which may make sense if it only appears when suitable devices are detected to update with? If that makes sense...

I can't remember without checking..the baby has its pyjamas on so it may be a day or two before I look..will advise..

Also when I updated mine, I tried several times with no success, then someone said make sure its the only file on the USB stick, cleared off the crap that came with the usb stick, and voila it worked

Just piggy-backing onto this...
I have an 09 with the nav and have updated the software & maps via the glovebox usb.
Is it possible for me to update the multimedia software? I don’t have Bluetooth streaming (phone calls but no music) and wouldn’t expect that to be added via software but it would be nice if the multimedia (radio & Music) looked more up to date.

You type your vin into the bmw s/w update site and it will tell you what updates are available for your specific car, then download to usb and update..

They publish a change log of the changes ...in my case it all was frozen around 2016 i guess when bmw discontinued production

So the iPhone 5 se and iOS 6 was where it came to a halt..

I'll try this again. Will format memory stick and ensure its the only file in the directory. Thanks.

Going to attempt to update the maps this afternoon as the current map is "Road Map Europe PREMIUM 2009-2" - so it sounds a little out of date.
I shall update with how I get on with pictures once complete.

I'm still a little sceptical if I can even update the iDrive version and am still not closer to getting bluetooth to work. There is simply no "Software Update" menu item that there appears to be on other forum members iDrive settings page.

I finally got around to checking for updates. It says I have an update so I downloaded it but as I don’t have an armrest usb I don’t think I have any way to upload it.

You can only install this update if you have the glovebox USB

I have a USB in the glovebox and the centre arm rest.
What I don't have is a "Software Update" selection in the menu system.
