2008 Z4MC - NOW SOLD

Hi All,

As many of you will know my car recently had a cam follower failure. I was told by BMW that everything had failed (Cams, followers, Bearing Shells etc). BMW rebuilt the whole bottom end of the engine and then I looked into getting a specialist to do the rest of the work.

On a few recommendations on here I took the car to Phil at CPC in Amersham. I supplied him with all top end internals from Schrick (very expensive parts but worth it as I was going to keep the car when done and have a bulletproof engine for years). The parts that I supplied were:

Valve clamps
Valve springs
Spring seats
Cams (288/280)
DLC Followers

Phil then did:

The head gasket (as a precaution)
All Valve seals
Oil Change with Castrol 10W 60

After exploring the head of the engine Phil said it was apparent that the original cams inside had no wear on them but the followers were some of the worst he had seen - These were all replaced with the new DLC ones and I decided that I would send the Schrick Cams back for a refund.

The car runs so sweetly now and seems to be even smoother than the S54 should be (with no ticks or anything) - the car seems to have loads more power now as well and is just a fantastic motor all round.

I am selling the car due to buying a house and although I would really like to keep it after putting in all of this money into it (which i know i wont get back) but I need to be an adult and put the money into the mortgage.

The car has had no expense sparred on it and some of the mods include (At £16,500 will not include the KW V3s or the Eventuri):

Full Geo done with Hunter equipment - this made a fantastic difference to handling
OEM cupholders retrofitted
F10 M5 Gearknob and gaitor
10mm H&R spacers
New Michelin PSS all round - very little wear on these.
Carbon fibre rear lip spoiler - professionally fitted.

The standard options on the car are:

Silver Grey
Red Leather interior - slight wear on the bolster (really nothing much but want to be honest)
Black Piano Trim
Bluetooth Handsfree
MFSW

The mileage on the car is at 53,021

Service History:
Running in service - 1,766 - Cooper BMW - Sunderland (31/07/2008)
Oil Service - 12,108 - Scothall Leeds BMW (26/05/2009)
Inspection 1 - 26,415 - BMW Care - Leeds (04/03/2010)
Inspection 1 again - 37,135 - Berry Heathrow BMW (15/11/2011)
Inspection 2 (with brake fluid) - 43,658 - Pro Tech Cars (02/07/2014)

Oil service due in 3,000 miles.

I am asking £16,500 for the car, considering all the work that has been done on it I think this is a great deal. Given how many Ms are seeing this problem occur now this is a safe bet with the work having been done.

The car is dirty at the moment - I will give it a clean before the weekend if I have a chance - if not it will be on Saturday. I will upload some pictures then.

Any Questions Let me know.

Andrew

fair price, the car is lovely and with those new additions to the engine i feel this to be a very secure buy...... lets face it, this could happen to any s54 engine z4, at least with this one you know that particular issue won't be rearing its head again any time soon.

A great car with a clean bill of health but why scrimp & leave out the new cams with the extent of all other work covered ?
Not sure the exact cost saved but it makes no sense as its now had half a top end rebuild :?

Simple economics I reckon Mr W. He wouldn't have recouped the additional cost on the sale price.

You rarely do with engine rebuild costs , nice to have the peaco of mind as the next owner but doesn't always add value to the car as proven in Porsche circles

I think the uprated followers should provide the piece of mind. The OEM cams were fine. The Schricks would've been nice for the buyer (bit more power etc) but not great for seller £2.5-£3k fitted I would've thought.

GLWTS Andrew. Glad you're seeing light at the end of this long, dark tunnel!

Thanks everyone, nice words and its probably down to the forum and the great members on here that I have got to this point at all.

Mr Wilks - totally agree with you, would be great for the next owner - so would a new engine but as the cams are still good I thought the new owner can upgrade them if they want. That being said, if an offer comes in soon I still have the cams and will be willing to give them to the new owner for what I bought them for.

But I really appreciate everyones comments and support through the process and I am really sad to let it go. I would love to keep it. I really don't think I could get another car that I would want for anything less than £100k.

Someone needs to buy it before I change my mind.

Good luck with the sale. I really wouldn't drop much below that price! Little things like new PSSs all round .... I've just had two on the rear after a bolt kissed one so i know the sting on the wallet very well, let alone what else you've had done.

Pictures now added - I forgot to mention that all original parts are available and will go to the new owner.

Questions or anymore feedback?

Thanks

Are you still using it. I would get some miles on it so any prospective buyer will have some assurance that its OK.

Thanks Tom, I know that it is quite similar to your old car. Appreciate the kind words.

I should have also said that it is on a private plate that I will remove before the sale and it will go back on to a 57 plate.

Hi All,

Any feedback on the price I have this up for? Based on other examples I think it is a great deal but just wondered what others think.

I will look at reasonable (and realistic) offers. But will keep it if it doesn't make decent money.

Thanks

I think your price is fine but you'll probably have to wait around a bit for the right buyer.
There's quite a lot of choice of M Coupes with similar milage around at the moment for £18k to £22k

Being honest ? Its a late car on 08 , its a great colour + spec & has had a LOT of costly work carried out that can only be to the good in the coming miles
Id say you were well in the zone with your price but will have to sit tight for a buyer who actually knows what he's getting :?
Someone who has just decided to try a ZM could well be put off when he reads what the car has had done ?
Tbh i would have thought the car wothout any work was worth around £17k so your ask isn't ott
Where else have you advertised ?
