2005 Z4 3.0 Motorway mpg

I'm hoping to start work after I finish Uni in about 6 months, I may have a job lined up but it's around 90 miles a day commuting, I read some people are getting 37 - 40 if they are steady on the motorway - Is that true? sounds good compared to the competition :D

Thanks,

Mike

I got 25mpg by the OBC reading (probably about 22mpg in real terms) on a 140 mile run at the weekend - that's what I like about the 3.0i Z4. I gave it a proper beating and it still returned decent MPG.

I managed 39mpg when I bought my zed and had to drive 250 miles home on the motorway.... think that's the highest I've ever got. Plenty threads on here about mpg if you do a quick search

If your doing 90 miles a day you need to either get a diesel or join me in the LPG club! I get the equivalent of 50mpg mixed driving.

Welcome :driving:

38mpg doing 280 miles on the M4, M25 and M1 this week in my 3.0si Auto Coupe which included a little hooning but most driving at 70-75

I would agree, when you get used to the car and start playing on you way to work, which you will do your mpg will suffer.

Agreed, I try to be sensible ish on my commute to work in the M, but its hard, really hard not to be up at around 8k often.

When I first got it, I wanted to drive it sensible ish all the time. I was getting about 31mpg all the time as my driving is usually motorway and fast A roads. No city driving!

I am now getting 26-28 and I don't really look at the mpg anymore.

What I'm getting at is Dont get it if you have to realistically get 40mpg for your fuel bill to become affordable or you will bankrupt yourself or fall out of love with the car very quickly.

I also find the small fuel tank annoying. I fill up twice a week usually!

Thanks for the forum welcome :D

Getting around 40mpg isn't a strict requirement I just wanted to know if it was possible on motorways. Also my misses works locally and has a Fiat 500, so I could alternate some days :D

44mpg, 39mpg, 38mpg - HOW? I can't get mine to go above 33mpg, cruising around 75-80. What speed are we talking about?

Yes I know dust in there too, but 44.8mpg at 70mph is not bad!! Oh and anyone know why i cant solve the problem with the 3 amber lights id like to know!! No faults show on fault code reader??!!

to switch the tire light off - put the ignition key in to first position and hold the tire sensor button on your dash down for about 20 seconds - and it will go out

i wonder if there is a general trend that the 3.0 has better economy than a 2.5 - does any 2.5 owner get their mpg above mid 30's? - mine is 23.5 - 25 on average

I get 28 out of my M. What sort of driving do you do?

These threads can be a bit misleading if you ask me as loads of people just state "motorway" without saying how heavy the traffic is. I sometimes use the Z for my commute and it returns 32mpg on the OBC, realistically more like 28mpg i'd say. That's 30 miles each way, 50% town 50% motorway in heavy rush hour traffic.

The point I'm making is that I can do the exact same journey at the weekend and get much higher mpg due to it being a clear run.

Unless your new job is really well paid I'd get a diesel for a commute of 90 miles a day. The Z4 also has a pretty small tank so doing that commute you will get to know your local petrol station cashier very well. On the flip side, if you really must have a performance petrol powered car with a big engine then the Z4 will be one of the most economical options.

around town some A roads to the train station and back - some motorway, I only do 4k or so a year in it, clearly I have a lead foot... but looking at the comments, people that were quoting lower figures tended to drive the 2.5 also, maybe the 2.5 is a less economical engine than the 3.0

Driving to Wales and back over the weekend computer read 34mpg. That was with the roof down and using the DSG instead of Auto for all the sweeping bends. :driving:

Steady motorway speeds mpg is around 38 - 40.
