2005 E85 BMW Z4 AIRBAG LIGHT

So do the IKE and LCM both show the same VIN now? If not, there’s your issue.

The 2767 SIM85 has caused me problems before. You may have to put another one in.

The IKE has correct VIN , the LCM does not. I’m not sure how to change the vin on this

@enuff_zed and everyone else who commented, thank you very much! Airbag light was cleared about 5 minutes ago! I got the PA soft scanner and changed VIN and odomoter to match the car. Then reflased the SBSL as that was giving a 9886 error. Coded via NCS and cleared all faults. Then set system time with tool32 , first on SBSL , then SBSR then SIM. ran predrive check on INPA ,it cleared light but came back straight away. Then I turned off car, recycled igntion and started it this time and airbag light went out. I do have a resistor in the driver side door airbag for now, but at least thats a known problem!

Thank you again guys!

Great news. Well done for persevering.

I had fun the first time I did the LCM swap. Could not get it to accept the odometer reading until eventually I realised it had to be in kilometres. 🙄

The orginal part for the car 9146279 i believe it is, i got from ebay as there was a 3037 ending one in it. That 914 module wouldnt accept odometer, VIN or tell me what algorithm to use. I just put the 3037 module back in and that worked a charm. Not sure why but i dont even car anymore 😂

I disconnected battery after getting this sorted and took the resistor out of the door airbag behind door card. Put the airbag in place and now it’s giving me resistance to low on SBSR module and the 9886 error in SBSL which was previously gone from above success.

So I disconnected battery again thinking the airbag itself is maybe just bad. Out resistor back in place and started up car cleared codes but now that resistance too low and 9886 error just won’t clear. What have I done 🤦🏻

Anyone come across this before?

Put battery on charge while at working on it too but still can’t seem to get rid of that 9886 error in SBSL. I feel it’s related to that resistance in the SBSL. Both codes can be cleared and airbag light does go off but obviously cycle ignition and airbag light back on.

Basically to sum it up. Prior to disconnecting battery and removing resistor I had no faults. Eveything was all good. Airbag light was gone!

After disconnecting battery and taking out resistor out of door connector (as that was a temporary fix) SBSL is reporting with 9886 error and SBSR is reporting with a resistance thorax / knee airbag too low error. ( I had both of these errors along my airbag hourney previously)

I checked resistance on the actual door airbag behind the door card on the SBSR side and it measures 2.8ohms with plastic tab pushed down, so I dont think that airbag is faulty.

Resistor went back in ( as that is what helped to clear airbag light )

Still getting SBSR low resistance and SBSL 9886 coding / thorax etc.

So it seems both pillar modules have a fault.

SIM is clear

Maybe the rain over the last few days could be a culprit, but that coding word in the SBSL module is confusing me.

Hmmmm. If you keep going and the faults keep coming back it is getting closer and closer to needing replacement modules

Turns out im an idiot for one of the faults. The low resiatnce on the SBSR is due to the shorting bars snapping on the push in clip, didn't even notice it unitl today. Thats the problem sorted. Last one is that 9886 error on the SBSL its intermittent. It can be cleared and stay off sometimes but then comes on again. Pulled out seat on LH side and floor is soaked. Pins and connectors for SBSL seem really good so not sure what the 9886 is about. WOuld make more sense if there was lots of corrosion but who knows. maybe I have to bite the bullet and buy another module.

I have seen them just die of old age. In your case it may be that condensation has got inside?
I read of one person who successfully opened it up and used a heat gun on it. He thought it may have cured a dry solder joint.
