2005 E85 BMW Z4 AIRBAG LIGHT

Right then, where are we at?
If you still have the step up converter issue then yes the SIM85 has a problem, but I would expect that to put the airbag light on, and you reckon clearing the SBSR fault puts the light out? So that's a bit odd?

SBSL - says it has the wrong chassis number?? But says that wouldn't put the light on? Think you need to check the VIN coded to the SBSL if you can.
SBSL - had a knee airbag issue - intermittent - not current. That 'may' be down to corrosion in the plug that connects the door to the a-pillar, so worth a check at the very least.

SBSR - that code usually does mean the module is dead, but first try all the usual tricks, cleaning the plug and pins, etc.

See if you can get the airbag light to go out by clearing the SBSR fault, but NOT clearing the SIM85 step up one. If you can then possibly you can get away with swapping just the SBSR, but I remain doubtful.
just going through these steps right now, will come back again after finished.

But yes clearing the SBSR turns off the airbag light then obviously when ignition goes off and comes back in it’s back again.

I’m gonna follow you steps here and report back after recode this SBSL module

So after recoding the SBSL which went okay no errrors and system timers set (no error eg. Ecu conditions not met)

now I’m getting a 93AB code in the sim85 module
(Picture below)

2 codes in SBSL 9886 and 982B
(Pictures below)

And 1 code in SBSR 98EA (picture below)

I am baffled I don’t know what’s going on 😂

So I tried clearing SBSL this time airbag light is still on. Didn’t go out. However that step up converter code isn’t there right now. That’s after I recoded and flashed and timed the the SBSL module.

I just done the prestige check and they all light up black, the pre drive check aktive goes black then white after phase 1 is complete

I meant pre drive check not prestige check, We are not talking about call of duty 😂

Also this communication test was white yesterday now it’s black meaning it’s communicating

Apologies for the spam of posts , for me there is just so much going on with this car.

Where I am at now

All codes cleared started car no light,

Turn off car turn on again light is back

Sim 85 code incorrect chassis number 93AB is back now

How could this make any sense I’ve flashes this module about 5 times now but that’s the only code there. No step up converter code nothing else on that module just that.

Very odd. looks like for whatever reason the SIM85 is not remembering the VIN?

SBSL also seems to still have the incorrect VIN, and the knee airbag issue is back.

SBSR is at least consistent as it has the same fault every time.

OK, I'm going to probably offend you now, but here goes anyway.................. are you absolutely sure you have got the VIN correct?

The SBSR doesn't seem to have a VIN issue. Is it possible to read what is coded to that one?
Just wondering if you've put the wrong one in?

Check you aren't confusing an 'O' with a zero for example.
Should be 5 letters, 5 numbers (though sometimes the 4th one is an X), 2 letters, then 5 numbers.

EG: WBABT52030LR123435

Just as an aside: allegedly, I heard somewhere, no idea personally of course................
You can blank the airbag light deep down inside it's holder, fit a tiny red LED on top of it, run the wires back into the instrument cluster housing, attach them to a small box that switches the light on for 3-4 seconds when the ignition is first turned on, then run a 2-core cable from that box to the fusebox, piggy back the positive to an ignition live fuse and earth the other wire to a suitable mounting screw near the fusebox.
Apparently the red light then looks exactly the same in behaviour as the airbag check light.
Of course I have absolutely no idea if this would work in practice, just something I overheard. ;)

No not at all no offense taken, I have zero experience whatsoever so this is all new to me

I have attached a picture below of vin and this is what I am inputting into WINKFP

WBABZ12010LC95254

I am not sure how to check what is coded to the SBSR

I am flashing the SIM85 again to see if anything changes or if it affects other modules

Just flashes it there on WINKFP

Programming OK

Next I am going to NCSexpert .

Once I finished that clear on INPA and do tool32 I will see if there’s any other faults back

And you are using this:

I always have to use the 'Alternative' method for WinKFP

Sounds like you need to have a large brain to attempt something like this way out of my capabilities but very much appreciated 😂😂

I’m going to alternative method now and see if that works for me thank you!

My internet has ground to a halt! Taken me 10 minutes to just view this pic. Sorry. Keep going and I'll catch up.

No problem mine too!

So I flashed and coded SIM85 using alternative method. Went on INPA then only had fault for system time, thought wow this is it.

Went to tool 32 SIM85 prg file

System lesesn 1 double click
System starten (1) double click

No error perfects

Go to INPA

Incorrect chassis 😂 actually gonna smash this car

I’m reflashing all modules and re coding normal way then I’ll see what I get

Only thing I noticed on NCS expert when I code it uses WBA0000 as a prefix and then LC95254(H) is that normal?

Why not like Winkfp where it just says chasis how it is
