2003 3.0i fuel gauge issue

Hi all,

Well I have had my 2003 3.0i for nearly a year now and so far (Touch Wood), It has been a reliable car. Just a few niggles that I need to sort out.

I noticed recently (after the nasty cold weather in Jan), that when I fill the fuel tank now, the fuel gauage only just gets past the 3/4 mark, at most it will sit at the 7/8's. I know that this is a minor niggle, but as I am thinking of doing a 3,000 mile Euro trip this summer I would rather the fuel gauge and consequently the miles till empty function were working correctly.

Do you think this is an issue with the fuel sender unit? anyone had this sort of thing before? The miles till empty is now roughly 40-50 miles less than normal (I was getting 350-400 miles a tank, but this latest one will only be 300-330, this includes lots of dual carriageway crusing with a Bi weekly B road blast)

Kind regards

My car did this on a couple of fills recently. I found that the petrol pump nozzle was cutting off too early. If I jiggled the nozzle a bit I can get an extra 5 litres of petrol in.

Hi,

Did you ever get to to bottom of this problem?

My gauge seems to fluctuate, for example the Motorway even on a short 1-2 junction run it seams to rise say from just under a 1/4 of a tank to just over a 1/4 of a tank?

I thought this might be something to do with where the sensor is positioned in the tank?

I'd be interested to know if you found anything out!
