The 2003-2005 3.0i Automatic Fuel Consumption Thread

By a HONDA or get over it - Horsepower costs Money :driving: There are some fast electric cars now being produced.

I have to agree with Caddyshk; If you wan't to play, your gonna pay. The first thing I do after startup is hit the sport button. My trip computer says 21mpg but I could care less. Then again, I've only put 28,000 miles on a 2003. :D

Caddyshack, thanks for the input. The point of the thread is to ascertain if there is issue with the mechanics of the 2005 3.0 auto I appear to have been blessed with. Reported MPG on the said vehicle model type reportedly ranges (from other user's cars), as I have previoulsy stated, from 22-28 mpg over a full tank. Reported mileage by other owners at worse is 250, mine returns 210.

With the price of fuel being what it is, 22mpg is going to sting anyone who uses the car frequently.

For my money I'd rather have a 3.2 boxster s and return 27MPG average over a tank. Whether it be specifically my car or all 3.0 autos, 22mpg is not a pleasant return.

I'm not asking for your advice in relation to my car choice, I'm educated and sensilble enough to make a reasonably well rounded decision, as was I upon purchase of my first Z4 (a 2.2) in early 2004. Hows the snow??

The thread asks for MPG, mileage and average speed......not your opinion on which car I should be driving. :)

Horsepower does indeed costs money, that said, 231bhp with a return of 22mpg is unacceptable in Europe. Perhaps in the good old US of A your more liberal in burning fuel, Europeans are not. Hence the diesel revolution.

No offense meant on my part DannyBoy. I only get 21mpg because I drive with my foot buried in the floorboard! And yes, the Europeans are far ahead of us Yanks when it comes to diesel technology. But I do think we are following your lead.

I'm sure your car is getting similar fuel usage to the other cars not tweaked on this board - my advice; short shift and keep your foot out of it...

Hello-

I never could get straight numbers from my OBC as it always readsd 25.5. I don't reset my counter sdo that may be why.

This weekend we drove 854 miles to our son's and did not reset the counter as I wanted to know the total miles traveled. On filling up it said I have a range of 398 miles till empty, but i fill up once I get past 1/2 tank.

But doing the math on the gas pump receipt I averaged 31 MILES PER GALLON !!!

I will reset the counter befor leaving Monday morning (very early!).

I will try to answert some of your questions as I will be traveling 850+ miles in one day.
:oldman:
Best!

DannyBoy, does it make much difference what type of roads you drive on, and how your right foot is? I never noticed much difference in mine, same for most journeys whether I booted it or not.

To be honest Mike, no matter how light I am with my right foot the 210 mileage per tank is about the same time and time again. This is based on a combined cycle.

I have seen around 280-300 miles out of a tank over a motorway run @ a constant 80mph.

Somethings a miss. Think the brakes may be catching.

Seems over the past few months the car has started to go to pot!

202 miles out the last tank with 25 miles remaining on the OBC.

Ave speed 19mph.

Ave MPG 22.0.

Was with a softly softly approach to the throttle too! :headbang:

I average 28.2 mpg according to the OBC which is fairly accurate IMHO since I remove the battery to store my car every year. I've had the same mileage over the last 3 years.

'05 Z4 - 3.0L. 60% of the miles are highway where I can easily get over 30 mpg, but I stomp on it pretty hard in the city though....

OBC says 9.8L/100km which is 24 miles/gallon

but in reality it's more like 10.5L/100km which is like 22.5 miles/gallon

i have a 2003 3.0L manual, at least 75% city driving

Mine's a 2008 3.0Si Auto so may not be the same but I get about 350 - 380 miles from a tank and average 32.4mpg on the computer.

Average of about 26mpg on combined driving (I had a 3.2 boxster 20mpg average don't believe all you read)
