2.5 Sport or 3.0 Sport or 123D or Audi S3 or Z4 Coupe?

Which car should I get.

Don't care about the mpg anymore although it does worry me sometimes. 8500 miles since the end of May!

So do I keep the Z4 2.5 that I have at the moment, now hitting 40,000 miles. Love the car. A few things need fixed on it but mostly cosmetic and nothing major.

Or do I cut my losses and trade it in for one of the low mileage cars from the stealerships for around £20k.

2.5 Sport. Roughly the same mpg that I get at the moment with 6 speed gearbox. Bit of extra power too with 218 bhp.
3.0 Sport. Again roughly the same mpg with a bit extra power than the 2.5 Sport. 265 bhp
123D - Deisel. Excellent MPG but still a bit pricey. 204 bhp
Audi S3 - 260 bhp. Roughly the same as the 3.0 Sport. MPG not as good as the Z4.

Or do I just say F**k it and get a Z43.0 Sport Coupe?

All that's going to happen is I'll keep the car for two years then trade it in for another. Probably around 30,000 miles per year.

I think it's gonna be another Z4!!! Woo hoo. Anyone got a number for a good divorce lawyer!

What about having two cars, keeping the current Z4 and getting a diesel Mondeo or Vectra nearly new for £8-10k and running that instead, and keeping the Z4 for sunny and occasional days? Lose less than getting a newer Z and killing it with the miles.

I am a fan of the Audi S3 but they seem a little common? (especially around manchester) so that would rule that one out for me, i think the 1series would be a bit of a backwards move, i also think you would get bored of it pretty quickly. So i suppose that leaves the Zed's......(you could all see where this was going anyway)

For me it would be either the 3.0 Sport roadster, or the Z4 coupe !.....The Z4 coupe is quite rare making it a good choice. Alternatively, way up whether you actually liked the novelty of a roadster/convertible, if not and you think you could live without, then a coupe is the answer my friend.

for more space etc. s3. a remap will see it go over 300bhp with 4wd, so chuck it round all year round

what's the starting cost of z4m?

He's just a BIT biased (as am I :P )

What about that new little Ford with a diesel that gets 65 mpg (and they won't export to the US :x )

I had a 120D for a year and couldn't recommend a One Series. Lots of minor issues, ride quality is poor, engine is rough, I thought, mpg is disappointing (42 avg) so doesn't make up for it. Depreciation will be horrific too. I drove a friend's Golf 1.9d 140 which felt quicker and smoother

Don't know about the S3, but have you considered a TT mk2?

Sounds like you love your Z4 though, and if you spend quite a lot of time in the car, have one you enjoy. I don't think there'll be much difference in mpg between 2.5 and 3.0 as you may drive the 2.5 harder, but I've not had one so.... On a constant speed M way trip I'd get 30 out of my 3.0 auto, though 25 - 28 is the avg.

Why is divorce so expensive? Because it's worth it :)

I've had a 130i for a year and can highly recommend a One series. Apart from a bad PDI, no issues yet, ride quality is firm but rewarding, engine is like silk, MPG is pretty impressive (27 avg). If depreciation bothers you, you shouldn't be driving a BMW.

I think the ride differs a lot with the wheel size and type of rft and yes, with the 3.0 engine it's a different car. Wouldn't reommend the diesel One though, rated though it is. Maybe the issue with mine was partly the stealer - everything took 2 or 3 visits to fix.

How about a new TT, but the TTS Coupe version, i saw one the other day and almost wet myself! .......it looked awesome, 4 exhaust pipes, bright blue, nice wheels etc etc, the front end even looked like a Audi S5!........The seats from what i could see also looked amazing.

If it wasntout of my budget (wedding next year) i would buy one tomorrow.

That's what I thought and with no wedding to pay for (or divorece, much more expensive :( ), I bought a 3.2 Coupe. Had to be drug-dealer black though 8) . To be fair, the M Sport seats on the 1er, and the iPod connectivity were better, but that's where it ends, and for the same money, no comparison.

Think the decision has almost been made.

Took the current Z4 in for an Oil service.

Had a loaner for the day.

Here's my two word review on 100 miles in a 118d Hatchback. IT's s**t!

Full Review
A 118d hatchback monstrosity. This is the blandest car I have ever driven. Even worse than the original Ford Mundano! Crappier inside than a 20 year old Ford Fiesta and has a gearbox that felt as if I was stirring soup! Runflats have seriously improved though. Great MPG too. No power, no guts and nothing like any other car I've ever been in. Seriously, not like any other Beemer. Just doesn't feel like a BMW. Almost fell asleep on the M8 so this has put me off the 1 Series completley.

Back at the Stealership they tried to charge me for work that I told them not to look at. Mainly the driver window regulator is broken. I knew it was broken but they took the door panel to let me know it was broken even after writing it down on the jobsheet. Then tried to charge me for it! How privledged do I feel!

Asked about servicing costs on the Z4 Coupe. There is no way I'm paying £600+ for Inspection 1 and £800+ for Inspection two.

So, unless I can get a low mileage Z4 Coupe for a steal that will cover the servicing costs for at least two years then it looks like it'll be an S3. As far as I know, Audi S3 Servicing costs are around £350 ever 18,000 miles or so.

Those aren't the servicing costs for a 3.0Si more like an ///M, muppet dealer

I'll check again with a few dealers to get an average cost.

I really don't want to get the Audi although the other half would like me to get one. I'd prefer to get the 3.0 Sport Coupe instead! :D

It is narrowed down to the S3 or Z4 Coupe though.

skelters, I'd look in to the S3 servicing costs a bit more, my mate had a TT225 and had some £800 sevices because of the Haldex 4wd system.

There are four October 07 (57 reg'd) cars on the BMW system for £21,450 and under 4k miles with nice spec too, xenon, individual interior, PDC, cruise, very nice cars

You can't go wrong with the Z4 Coupe
1-800-GUD-LAYR :D

the real issue for me with the A3, is the fact that the looks dont match the price tag !......across the model range they all look similar..Z4 Coupe all the way!

Or a TT coupe? It does have 4 seats so you might not need that lawyet :? Sorry, mine was rubbish  (lawyer, not TT)

Never thought I would be feeling bad about getting another car!

Decision is made and sign the paperwork tomorrow.

07 plate Audi S3
Sprint Blue Metallic
2.0l Turbo
18" Alloys
Two Tone Leather - Black and Cream
Xenons
Parking Sensors
Underseat heating
BOSE Sound System
Aux Input Socket

Had a test drive yesterday and it left me speechless. The acceleration is incredible. The ride quality is superior to the Z4 although it'll take a bit of getting used to being so high up. Very comfortable too

BMW shot themselves in the foot by not getting back to me about a newer car. Nobody phoned so I wandered into Audi yesterday and spoke to the salesman. Had spoken to him a few months ago when I started looking. Kept me there for 10 minutes making sure I was actually serious about the new car. Took me outside and showed me a car that was just in that day. Still had the original owners private Reg on and an empty bag in the footwell.

Done some calculations and Bish Bash Bosh it'll be mine by the weekend with a bit of luck.

Pictures will come when I get it.
