2.0L/N46 Minimum Valve Lift

Hey all,

Can someone else who owns a 2.0L Z4 that has INPA/DISV57 have a quick look at what their minimum valve lift is running @ idle?

I know in DIS you can change it between 0.3mm and 0.8mm. It says that 0.8mm improves the smoothness of the idle at the expense of performance and fuel economy. So by that logic I've concluded that the higher the minimum valve lift is - the worst the performance is right?

Well so mine is set at 0.3mm but when running in INPA, the live stats show that it never actually goes below 0.5mm.

The car feels abit sluggish to me, it's a struggle to get a sub 9s 0-60mph run. Is it reasonable to assume - based on my previous logic that as the minimum valve lift is higher than it should be, it's negatively impacting performance?

I really would like to know if anyone with the 2.0/N46 engine is reporting 0.3mm so I can confirm there is something amiss with mine!!

Agree, as the revs climb & more performance is asked for you need greater valve lift not less.

Well because it says that 0.8mm provides a smoother idle at the expense of performance vs 0.3mm, surely the 0.5mm my car is running at will suffer performance wise vs 0.3mm as well, just not as much as the 0.8mm??

I think they are only referring to response at idle as opposed to full throttle max rpm performance.

Well what about at low down rpm when you don't want to keep it above 3-4k rpm while driving through town? :P

Surely the performance when I'm not flooring the engine would be effected?
 
But the setting is valve lift at idle which is when you are not applying any gas.

As soon as you apply some gas this setting is void.

So why does setting the minimum valve lift to 0.8mm negatively effect performance (according to DISv57!)?

Because it's referring to the engine response from idle only & this will not be relevant whilst driving along.
