In my opinion heated seats are a valuable plus, enabling you to drive, top-down, in colder weather... Chrome exhaust tips are a must... still cant believe some don't come with them... and of course leather seats.
Other than that I'd say you'll love the car... what are you driving at the moment?

Not really interested in the speed element and car would be used purely for pleasure. I have a workhorse that sits in the drive. Would not put more than 6k a year on it. My 1er is two and only has 9k on the clock. Spec wise definately the half leather and heated seats. Don't really require much else.

I drove a 2.0 and found it a bit short on power... you might find the insurance is not much more.
Dogman you could get a nearly new 3.0 or 2.5 for new 2.0 money, and although the running costs would be higher, because you're only doing a few miles it wouldn't really matter.

I bought a pre registered 2.5si sport back in may. Leather, 108 alloys, heated seats, cd changer, wind deflector, comfort pack costing just over 33k for 26k.
I know you could probably pick up a basic 2.0 se for just over 23k as was also offered to me.

The 2.2 is gone, but I'm sure the 2.0 will still be nice to drive if you want new and aren't bothered about speed.
Myself....I went for the used option and bought a 3.0 with 18k on the clock for less than the price of a 2.0.
If you do such low mileage, why not go down the used route and get one with 20-30k on it - you'll save on the new price and when it comes to trade in the mileage will be a bit more down to average.

I bought a March 05 Z4 three weeks ago. The new price of it was over 38k (very high spec) and I paid 23k for it! It has done less than six thousand miles and is in showroom condition apart from a couple of minor stone chips.
The 3.0iSE is incredibly versatile. If I cruise on the motorway at 65, I get 44 MPG! If I drive normally round town and short journeys, I am still getting over 30 MPG. It is only when I start to put my foot down, accelerating hard in third for example does the MPG start to drop, but even then I am looking at well over 20 MPG. At the moment after two thirds of a full tank I am averaging 32 MPG. This is excellent considering I used to average 22 MPG from my 330ci Sport (same engine). My Z4 is a manual box (what else on a roadster?) and the 330ci was a steptronic, which probably has a lot to do with it (along with the weight).
My M3 used to average 18 MPG!
These are the very best MPG figures from all three cars at 65 MPH on the motorway:
M3 - 34
330ci - 36
Z4 - 44
All in all, I thoroughly recommend the Z4, but I would go for the SE with the softer suspension. I would also recommend you go for the 2.5 at least.

Dogman: I have the 2.5i and I love it. I bought it used, it's a late-model 2003 and I haven't had the first hint of trouble (knock on wood), and I drive it like a bat out of hell, it also is just my pleasure-mobile. With all the heat here in GA, I've driven it once, maybe twice, in the last 3 or 4 weeks.
When I was test driving, I also tested the 3.0 and in my opinion, the small amount of extra power (I did notice some, but too slight) was not worth the hightened price tag.
In any case, I am extremely happy with it and since it's not my daily driver, it's like new every time I take it out.

You will notice the extra torque, especially in 5th and 6th.
Why not get a test drive of the 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0? Then when you come back and tell us you went for the 3.0 we can all reply, "Told you so!!!"

Get all shot of the runflats too.

Greetings from Fermanagh! I have a late '06 2.0i Sport and around Ireland get an average of 36mpg (obc shows 37.1 so is pretty accurate!) which is a mix of spirited and normal fiance-beside-me type driving :roll:
I went for the Sport as I thought it was a little more special on the inside (M wheel, M seats etc) and looked nice with the 18" M Wheels, which actually give a hard but not uncomfortable ride which pleases me.
You will not regret the 2.0i engine, its not the fastest but its really ok. One option that is a real must are the heated seats both for comfort and resale. Also full leather if you can and the comfort pack at £500 is worth it. Also make sure it comes with the AUX socket for an i-pod, as they are standard but mine is missing and will be £200 if I want it fitted....
Its true what was said, the £21 chrome exhaust finisher makes a world of difference to the car looks wise.
I gather BMW are offering some good finance deals on the 2.0iSE but these also extend to the Sport. If you're looking to buy straight, i got my ex-BMW Management car with 6k on the clock for £7k under the list of a new one. IMHO JKC in Coleraine (Des) and David Prentice Omagh (Ashley) are the best guys to talk to and most willing to deal....
