19" Alloys with Run flats... shake rattle and roll

Took my nearly aquired 28i for its first country road blast. 19" alloys really look the part but at what cost. (M-sport too.)
My rear bridgestone run flats only have 3 MM of tread left. Bumpy B roads gave me such a bad ride and with loads of road noise.I was bouncing all over the road. :driving:
i am thinking about changing to eagle f1 asymmetric 2 non run flats all round.
Will this give a much better ride or am I hoping too much.
I bet 17" alloy option give such a better ride. I sticking with 19" though as they look so dam good. I will stick an 18" (non staggered)winter set on for next winter.

From all the feedback I've read I would suggest ditching the non run flats is a good idea. Keep the 19" alloys, like you say they look good (although you need to post up some pics so we can seem them  )

Yep ditching the run flats will make a huge difference to ride quality and road noise. I've got 19s on my e85 and switched to eagle f1s - made a massive improvement over the previous Bridgestone rfs.

Nice - you have to keep those 19" alloys. I reckon the E89's really benefit aesthetically from the larger alloys

I took mine out yesterday .. and I think the adaptive suspension makes a big difference with run flats

I managed to avoid all the pot holes and the ride was very good ... but still going to change them though, just waiting for Kermits feedback when he changes his

regards

Changed mine over to MPSS the week I bought mine.
Not only a better and quieter ride but less chance of damage to my Alloys which are prone to cracking.

Same tyres and wheel combination as my wife's Z4, but hers has nearly the full tread left. We don't suffer the poor ride. But I recall her previous Z4 (E85) which did suffer very badly when the tread depth dropped to 3mm, at which point I routinely get new tyres anyway.

Has anyone changed a pair at a time as and when when needed. Usually the rears go first and was thinking of changing those to non run flats.

Wha contingencies do you build in for punctures...?

E.G. Do you use the tyre weld from Holts or pack a pump and goo kit

I've got a can of holts and a compressor. However I'd only use the holts if it wasn't holding air for long enough to get me home or to a garage.

Most of the punctures I've ever had have been slow and so I can inflate and get to the garage in the hope they could repair the puncture, instead of filling it with holts weld.

With regards tyres, I ditched my 18" run flats for mps and live them. The grip is excellent and the combination of 18 and non-runs means it's a decent enough ride (for a roadster!).

Why would small diameter wheels give a better ride?
I understand why NRF would.

30 mm profile has to have very hard side walls. I have read that 17" is a much better ride on the Z4. I guess 17" run flats still have to have hard side walls .

I have 19" wheels and run flats and to me the car handles perfectly and the ride is superb when I had my E85 the ride on the run flats was truly awful but on the E89 it is so different.

Andy i agree that they are better on the e89 than e85/6 they were dangerous on them. :o But a few times i have felt the car skip/lift at the back when your on it. Hope the car is sorted out after fitting in NRF. It`s the only complaint i have with my 35is,so fingers crossed.

I love my E86 Coupe in Carbon Black, but the E89 in Black is starting to turn my gaze a lilttle !! It looks great..

Keeping the E86 long term, but may buy an E89 as a second car in a couple of years.. :)

I did think they felt dangerous on my E85 and I changed them straight away but I have never felt my 35i skip or lift at the back so I must drive slower than you :)
