108s

i went somewhere to get a quote to get my 108s done. ive had various recomendations for the place and have myself suggested it based on advice they gave me in the past.

im not very impressed with them this time tbh but thats not the question here.

the basic crux of it is it looks like my wheels have at some point been painted. i would say they split them as there is not evidence of them trypig to spray over the gap etc.

so they guys i went to said. these have been painted all over. the outer should be polished with the star being powder coated. the star should also be a dimmer colour and the outer is left bare and you need to keep it polished thats how we would recomend doing them.

now i had no idea when i bought the car this is how they should be. I really really like them the light silver all over they are as i like the contrast with the claret.i dont really like the 2 tone wheels, not my cup of tea,

so if i get them done can they just be split and painted all over in the same colour or is the outer rim just going to peel again (or was it just a crap job before) i dont want to go down the polished route.

They're your wheels so its your choice of how you want them finished, i've recently had mine done and i opted for a painted silver star and the barrel powder coated in "bright silver" as they called it, it looks as close to OEM without having it re-diamond cut.

they look great. i was worried tho that the paint may just peel off the outer bit (the barrel?) and i had to go back to the polished look.

the reason the outer part goes all crappy is because of the salt getting onto the polished metal surface. i've seen a few people on here get them all powdercoated/painted and i'd say it's a better idea as it means you won't need to keep maintaining the polished bit.

Absolutely right Ben. This applies to all polished rims that have a clear lacquer applied over the surface. You only need a tiny chip or split in this for water to get in and then that horrible milky effect starts to appear. I'd get them painted if you are having them refurbished.

They look pretty good. These wheels need to be two tone, one colour silver all over looks shite.

Agree

The bright silver round the lip looks lovely in contrast with the star. I love the way mine reflect off the ground under artificial light, or catch the sun on a bright day. But I'm a bit sad

Not sad at all Bing. I loved my 108's

& I still do :-)

domsz4, here's mine re-done in two tone of AUDI Titanium Silver & Porsche Grey as I didn't want it to be too extreme

I've had mine done all over original silver - rims were separated and inners sandblasted , primed and painted the same silver . Local paintshop did them ( all 4 ) for £220 cash - the purists will no doubt say outer rims should have been polished but I think they look pretty good

thanks for the pics, keep em coming. im just not convinced by the 2 tone light and dark. i just like really big shiny light silver wheels. maybe 2 similar silvers. i think its the combo of mirror vs shiny that puts me off if makes sense.

on of my main concerns was that i didn't want the edges polished and the associated issues but if i can get them powder coated then that's OK.

i think the cost will be the deciding factor at the mo. most places seem to quote 400+ and as my wheels are not that bad i was thinking that if i could sell them for a decent amount say 200 then 600 would go a long way to a different set. i just really like the 108's i think its the slenderness of them.

thinking about it i can see why they suit the black car and the blue color but i think against the claret the 2 tone would look a bit dated if you see what i mean.

gov were they happy splitting them?

thnk is with all this i think maybe the one colour makes them look small. i often think my wheels just don't look big. could be angles and light tho.

Didn't even ask - they just did it - wasn't an issue at all . It really is the only way to do it properly - all the bolts remained chromed as they should !

Mine are starting to go a tiny bit at 1 or two of the bolts... If I need to have them re-furbed I would love to have them re-done as OEM, but IIRC they cost a lot more to do. So I would probably go the route of others and have them powder coated all over but go nice and bright on the rim. I understand your love of them tough, they are proper. The only ones I like more are ///M wheels... But I would need an ///M to go with them :D

Its making me sick looking at the pics of the 108's in this thread - I badly kerbed one yesterday in a tight multi-story carpark
