108 Starspoke Rims

I'm not sure I will ever change the suspension or lower it. With ///M sport suspension and the '07 front I'm already a struggle to clear a speedbump or get into a multistorey and I do't really want the ride any harder.

Calipers - they were pre 108's which are more open. I need to think about rotor and caliper combinations to giv e the right through wheel look. Perhaps big brembo kit as a little Winter project. Let's see what research tips up to tempt me :)

will check when the are next off. when refurbing the wheels they were all identical in size and offsets and are stamped 8.5 on all the faces?????

i know this as i spent a loving 4hrs with each wheel refurbing lol

Well, had a L/H rear 108 replaced under warranty about 1 month ago. Cleaned the car yesterday and noticed the R/H one has gone the same!!! :x Back to the dealers tomorrow then!!

Think I will get those CSL's ordered sooner rather than later and sell the 108's on. I like them but how long will they last if they are starting to corroded after 1 year!! At least 2 of them will be brand new!!

Can someone who knows for certain that they have OEM 108's, that have not been refurbished or touched, tell me the finish on the inner part of the rims? I'm referring to the flat surface of the rim between the 2 tyre beads seen through the spokes.

Is it shiny alloy, powder coated or other?

Cheers plowy

long story but BMW have supplied me with one and it's got a powder coat or almost enamel coating on it. Maybe a later modification?

No modification at all Phil, they are manufactured by BBS as i'm sure you know, if it's other than the shinny alloy on the inner part of the rim i say it's refurbed..... 100%..

Don't worry, its a BMW modification! Funnily I have had a 108 replaced today because of corrosion under warranty and it has a grey powder coating on the inside as you have said. My trouble is I had the other rear replaced about 2 weeks ago and this one has the shiny rim so I have miss-matched rims now!! !! Mt dealer is having it back tomorrow. I have asked them if they can get me another powder coated on to replace the other one as that is a good idea for the corrosion problem!!
There is a tell tale sign. On the star centre there is a cast in number. On the shiny wheel rim it's No 8. On the new painted 108 it's No 15.

This is the old wheel:

This is the new wheel (you can see the No15 on the spider):

That's exactly what I have got, even down to the same 8 & 15 casting numbers. :)

Perhaps best rush to BMW and see if I can get another silver one

Interestingly though the ones I got rid of looked just like Breakers' second one - with the powder coating...

Hey, if they don't change the silver one tomorrow on my car, I'll swap mine for your powder coated one! :D

Can do that if you want. My powder coated is a rear 8.5J
Did BMW tell you if both styles were still available?

Interestingly I was in too and they pulled a parts system note that showed the design changed from a polished silver inner to a 'paint' finish. They are putting a enquiry to Germany to find out what happens when they replace one and end up with an odd set. Again as per you I get to hear Monday PM and wiill post comments.

Dang it, y'all have confused me. I like those wheels, but the also look like they're harder to clean. Guess right now, I'll stick with my OEMs.

I cant see how BMW can supply grey rims on the 108's there is so much of the rim visible, cant look good, if it was silver wouldnt be so bad.

Is the outer lip still diamond turned or does that look refurbed?
