Anyone else feel we're just going round in circles here? asking too much etc etc. but thats not whats going on, my name has been soiled within days if not hours due to a poorly advertised car.

Seems to be a debate going on, can a car thats been repaired be a good car? should a member who owns a crash damaged car be allowed on this forum, and does that make him instantly a dodgy person who's not an enthusiast and doesn't look after and maintain there cars??

Really think this thread needs moving out of the for sale section or deleting.....quickly.

Not a chance in hell I'd have bought this if repaired by DIY

It's this exact attitude that really gets me, it's your opinion and thats fine but about 15 bolts later it's looked like this;

Yes, it is my opinion and I'm entitled to that, I don't want to see a "Newbie" on this site paying over the odd's and buying the car and not knowing it's history, after all they could think because the car is advertized on this enthusiasts site by a forum member that it will be perfect and well looked after. :)

Excellent point because its EXACTLY what I'd do if I wanted a particular marque of specialist car s/h....look at the owners club sites first because you'd like to feel you could trust them to own decent cars with good history.

I'm not sure how old that car was but if it was pre-facelift, its quite feasible that it could be a write-off to many insurers in that state.

So to answer the OPs latest comment, yes its a highly relevant debate mate.

I'm not thinking your name is soiled for this advert. I'd be annoyed at you IF it sold to someone on here who came here because we were a caring bunch, and then was shown that image later and hadn't heard about it before that point!

I'm not fussed.

Just re-advertise the car with the relevant history, and I'm sure everyone on here will be more than happy to see you being nice and transparent about the cars past for potential buyers etc.

If as said you don't want to do that, then thats fine, but the classifieds here are not really, imo, for that kind of selling. These classifieds are for, what we hope to be, nice Z4's... not ones we know have a history that enthusiast buyers should be aware of!

Nothing wrong with a crash damaged car, no one has an issue with them at all. As said, in VX220 circles many cars have a cat c/d on them. What IS important for them, is that the owners SHARE that information openly so everyone knows what they are getting...

Again, no one is saying you have to do all that, just it seems a nice thing to do here on these classifieds for possible future fellow owners?

I think there's a bigger picture here , like i said right in my first post there no right or wrong here it really depends on your personal view which should be encouraged as this is a forum aimed at discussing everything z4.

But reading through all the posts i sort of getting underlined impression its more to do with would you purchase a cat D vehicle. I think some people just see cat D and think first corner that goes around its going to full in half.. like the old cut and shut cars. This is simple not true. People are alot more savvy now er days when purchasing cars though any medium despite of what a seller puts on the add and now do all the checks and inspections. I dont think that anyone on a enthusiasts forum would buy a car blind.

Just because torino's car has had light front damage does not make it a old or dogde or second rate if the repairs are done correctly.it was light frontal damage that why its was only a Cat D and not a B ,A or F and not fit for the road.

For some this is the only route into z4 ownership , buying a cheep car that car be legally repaired getting it back to its original state.Iam sure if torino had the budget he to would of bought a none damage car.

Just on his before and after pics i think he should be commended on doing a good job and something he should be proud of.You could almost say its a very extreme mod.... :)

Like a few have mention which i do agree with is torino should of posted the before and after pics. and all this would of been totally avoided.

But a few shot him down...... when a post like " do you have any before pics" would of been a better course of action especially when a few new the history of his car .A few couldn't wait to kick the stall away.

Hung without jury.....!

Yes WE all agree torino was a little naive in his for sale post but what happened to the help and advise you gave him when he first bought his car.

If torino was a new member just joined trying to sell his car then yes both barrels but as i understand he has been a avid member for a year . Hand on hart I really dont think he tried to deceive anyone just got it wrong that's where the advice should of been forth coming.

This hole episode just leaves a bad taste in your mouth but a very well worth discussion and like i have mentioned before we can all learn from this being it selling a car or commenting or buying a car from this forum.

I wish torino well with his sale and hope he continues on the forum because his views are as important as mine or anyone else's.

NOW PLEASE SOMEONE LOCK THIS THREAD DOWN ITS STARTING TO HERT MY HEAD , I JUST CARNT RESIST VEIWING IT

Torino,

My posts had nothing to do with an attack on you as a person and if you construe it that way it's my error in typing for which I would apologise, or your reading into it. (Think classic management and separate the action from the person) I started by challenging the accuracy of an advert which IMHO went way beyond the normal realms of a little artistic licence and flowering and to protect other forum members and the implied responsibility of an enthusiasts site. Any tarnishing which I doubt anyway is being done by you to yourself through the subsequent posts, deleting posts and subsequent actions - let me cite some examples:

You advertised a CAT D car and played it down way too much. Ignoring that you had previously posted the extent of the damage, gloated that you would 'never buy a CAT D unless a bargain' and in response to a specific question of mine on forum replied that you 'had to straighten the member' under the wing. Perhaps not jigged, but 'straightened'. You've now removed that post and several others and hidden the photos of 'before repair'. That's a bit of a dubious clean up excercise!!!

You made it out to be light almost imaterial damage, however let's not forget it was enough for someone to write off the car which including other costs is often 60% of value and I believe you had a least to replace many panels from bonnet, wing, bumper cover, headlight, rad trim, rad, grilles, etc. That was no car park tap.

You made out the car had never been thrashed. How can you know? It's got a 6 year history and 60,000 miles before you even had it and ended that life bent.

You made out it was worth at least as much as any other Zed of the same age, forgetting you clearly purchased it below normal price and should adjust the sale price now. For sure you can sell a car for whatever you want and if you get £10k for it I'm happy for you, but this is a forum and people come on here for assistance in buying and asking 'expert' opinion of specific cars, value, etc. When I raised the point you argued and challenged me to find and post more of similar price and age without damage, rather than accepting the suggestion??

You claim it is 'professionally repaired by yourself'. Well if you are a vehicle accident repairer by trade and warrant the work professionally, can demonstrate it's been checked fully for chassis alignment, anti corrosion put back and an engineers report then I'd accept that. Frankly I suspect you're a handy amateur that repaired it mainly at home and it carries no guarantees, etc.

As other have said all you needed to do was reword the advert, make it fair and honest or ask me as I offered to remove the entire thread and I would have done it, now it's become a 'test bed for openness.

As I say nothing personal, but a good learning curve for many on the forum.

Had this been a VX220 for instance, they are VERY picky about CAT c/d ratings. Most owners selling a cat c/d show the FULL damage before, repair pics, invoices and history behind that to reassure potential new owners. That is the nature of their community.
The one person who tried to do it dodgily was flogged on the internet (a VXR model iirc)

I think i remember this, was it a red one repaired by his cousins garage but was selling as mint condition. Very dodge !

Thanks to everyone for the input, has made for an interesting topic.

I've requested that the thread be deleted, or if the mods won't do this, then at least moving out of the for sale section.

I've been made very away of my advertising mistakes and am sorry to those who have been offended.

If I had truely thought I had a chance to re-do the advert before things escalated I would have, and certainly reading back over it there were deffinatly opportunities to do so that in my annoyance I over looked.

And in the future, should I advertise anything I'll make sure that ALL known information is declared.

So if this thread could please be deleted we can put it to rest.

Regards.

The topic has been moved into the general discussion thread, but in the interests of the majority of users after review by the mods will be left open and not deleted.
