03-08 BMW Z4 HALO PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS FOR HID BLACK 04

So, going by what hdo has said on this thread, the US seller does have a OEM Xenon replacement....Who in the UK wants to go first then?

ZFOUR,

How did wire the AE lights? Which wires did you connect it to? I want to have the AE lights on by itself in the day and also have it on at night too with the xenons.

If you look at the back of the headlight, there should be a bulb where the white strip is (the eyebrow) and two wires coming out of the bulb (white + black). What i did was buy some connectors and joined the 3 red wires to the white wire and the three black wires to the black wire.

The result is what you see in my last pics:

For the daytime, the AEs + the single LED + and the white strip/eyebrow is one

For night, everything should be on.

While definately not a fan of the amber indicator, I am not keen on these myself and make the car look very "aftermarket" to the trained eye. Sorry.:?

I would also be concerned about the lense used to project light and subsequent light output. I would be very surprised if their light output was as good as the OEM lenses. How are people who have fitted the same finding light output now?

See here.....

I retrofitted a set of DEPO (which are meant to be a quality supplier) aftermarket Angel eyes of similar variety to a 1 series and installed a xenon kit too. Light output was absolutely shocking and this was down to the second rate lenses used by the aftermarket light manufacturer.

Personally, I would have saved up and sourced a set of OEM lights- just my two pence worth and it you like them good for you. :)

I agree that the lights can look aftermarket to the trained eye but then again, I don't really have a problem with aftermarket. Maybe its an age/location thing. :D The main reason why I didn't go OEM was the AEs as I think only M lights have AEs.

Anyways, I'll be losing my licence for 3 months soon so went for a bit of a photoshoot. I fail at taking photos btw :(

How's the light output zfour? Any pics of the output from the driver's seat?
Yep, this is the info I want to hear too.

I've got DEPO rear lights on my van - they're pattern copies of OEM lights and the quality seems fine. Obviously this is quite different to what sort of success they've had at making headlights as there's a lot more to a reflector/lens than a rear light. Hence me not willing to take a chance on these without evidence of the beam pattern being OK. Or, as someone posted earlier, at least equally as bad as OEM halogens

I would say the beam pattern is stronger than the OEM halogens (which are pretty bad). I will get some photos up later tonight/tomorrow when it gets dark

I wonder if you didn't hook up the extra LED light, if perhaps the AE's would be more visible? Or could you hook up the extra LED light to the low beam? Just a thought...

The long strip thingy at the top isn't LED, its just a parker. The reason why it looks super bright could be attributed to my photography skills. There is an LED light though which looks like a bright dot from far away. Depending on the wiring, you can have them off and the AEs on. Me not being too handy just wired all three wires on (2 x AE and 1 x LED). You can also have the top strip off permanently or only with the low beams too.

Here is another photo on the same day which makes it less bright/scattered

I hope to get the beam pattern photos up tonight. Been raining here today.

Just had these fitted to mine but I can't get rid of the bulb checker light on the dash..!! The angel eyes and "eyebrow" light have been wired into the side lights and all work well....anyone else have this probelm ?

can anyone suggest how to rectify this ?

It doesn't bother me too much but if i come to sell the car then it may be a problem.

Thanks

Any suggestions regarding the "bulb checker" light on the dash ?

It was suggested to me that this light is on due to the auto-check / levelling has been unplugged !!

I think you've joined the wires the same as me. However, I don't get a bulb out light. Perhaps theres a loose connection? How did you join the wires together?

I'm not really sure as i didn't join them.

I've entrusted the job to the chaps that deal with all my servicing.

The dealer I bought them from seems to think that because the self levelling adjustment thingy is disconnected that's what is causing the problem.

thanks

Not that this comment helps, but do these lights not connect to the height adjustment switch? i.e. the manual height adjustment dial inside the car will no longer be functional? Just trying to understand these lights better.

I think Zfour is right, make sure you check where you have wired the AE lights and the LED to.

Zfour - How is the light output of your AE lights in the day time? I find that mine are not as bright as I would like it to, I hard to tell if they are on or not?

Suspect is will be similar to the DEPO lights in that they are NOT fitted with motors but can be modified to do so if need be.

The adjustment motors are in the headlights (im pretty sure). I assume the small plug with 6 pins is for the motor. When you turn the headlights on, you can hear the motor and also, you can see the lights/beam level, move up when you i'm parked in front of a wall on a slope. Think that is what you mean?

edit: AE output in the daytime is not too bright (acceptable but could be brighter imo). I think the difference is even more obvious with the chrome versions as there is less contrast between the ae and the internals. I am thinking of opening the covers and changing the rings when I have time off work. As they aren't OEM, they shouldnt be as hard to take off with the help of an oven

Hi Everyone,

I just signed up here, this looks like a great forum. I am in the States. These lights look very nice. ZFour, a question for you, does your bi-xenon high beams work? Or is there a halogen bulb for high beams?

Any error messages on the dash gauges?

Chris

Hi... very interested in these lights! I think they look great and would like to do them on my Z4. Any suggestions where I can buy them in the UK? It seems that there are no more on ebay.uk and the rest are found in the US, which most probably are left hand drive. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.
