I still haven't got round to buying a TV in my new house, it's getting a bit quiet now so I need some noise. Due to the corner space I want to put it in I am restricted to max 40" screen but will get more manoeuvrability with 37". I want something flash and not being good at this stuff can you guys help?
I went to John Lewis, Bentalls and the Sony Centre in Kingston last Thurs but got confused and came away with nothing. Need to get one soon and a nice glass or white stand. My living room is very Laura Ashley esque pale blue and I thought maybe silver edging on the TV would not look as stark as black so think I would prefer this.

I got a Panasonic (always impressed with their stuff) 47" Vierra LCD 3D Smart TV when I got my new flat. It's wafer thin, and had apps etc all built in.

Not sure if they do smaller versions (I assume they'll do a 40" version), but if they do, well worth a look

Edit - link to a smaller Panasonic http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-blu-ray/televisions/large-screen-tvs-32-and-over/panasonic-viera-tx-l39em6b-39-led-tv-21278883-pdt.html

I guess depends on your budget Ruby,

Recently bought a Sony and been very pleased with it

I went for a 32" but wished I had gone slightly larger, however I always find Sonys picture quality superb, not really into what they can do so long as it switches on :)

Tim.

An ocean of choice for all budget,s & features that will boggle your mind
We,ve had Panasonic,Toshiba,Samsung in the house in the last few years but recently bought a Finlux , :o would definitely buy again which i haven,t with the other,s ,

Sound on some of the newer Samsung,s is dire , wouldn,t buy again for that reason

I bought this Samsung about a month ago:
http://www.johnlewis.com/samsung-ue40f5500-led-hd-1080p-smart-tv-40-with-freeview-hd/p587837

It's good because its the only Smart TV that has all the catchup services on it!

In terms of picture quality, the reviews say the Panasonic has the better out of the two:

John Lewis also has the 5 year warranty which is nice :)

Go and have a look at which picture you prefer - Panasonic, Sony and Samsung are all good , they all have terrible sound - all flat screen TVs do as they can't put decent speakers in the depth of a modern set. So I would recommend a companion set (Bose) or a sound bar .

I have a Panasonic currently, it's very good but thinking of changing to a Samsung, they seem to be the market leader these days.

Smart TVs seem to be all the rage at present, I'm not convinced. OK if you have unlimited broadband download but I haven't got round to that yet. Still, seems difficult to buy a non-smart TV in my local shops.

When you say max size of 40 it varies by tv.

I recently bought my parents a new tv, had to have a max height of 60cm due to an ac unit.

Managed to get a 50in panasonic as it was virtually frameless.

Currys currently have an offer on you can get a free 32" on selected samsungs. However I think u have to claim back the £299 for 32".

Could be worth a look.

Ok buy John Lewis, that's the first thing, free 5 year warranty and they are great if things go wrong.

Secondly buy Samsung....there internet catchup is great and they look good too, and Samsung make all the screens for Sony too...

I have a Samsung blu ray player you can have for free which I have never used as it came free with the tv

I love the generosity shown to fellow members on this forum :)

Ps I'm not tight I just have nothing worth giving.

The first rule is whatever size you believe you need/want go the next size screen up. (I know you are working with a small space so get the biggest screen size it will take.)

Second rule is finding the screen you want and then go to John Lewis and buy it from there. Their customer service and 5 year plan is worth its wait in gold. They also used to price match without question.

Your next step is to decide what screen.

Do you watch many movies; if the answer is yes then you need to get a Panasonic plasma from the GT series. If no then get a Samsung, the main reason for this is they are whisper thin and all the apps you get with the screen however the downside is their screens are very bright and don’t give a very realistic picture thats the trouble with OLED. As mentioned above, depending on your ears you will need to buy a proper speaker as the sound is below par on the very thin screens. If you do buy the Samsung they are very easy to hang on a wall with one of the disc brackets from Amazon. Don’t buy the official Samsung one.

Always bought Samsung. Got to be honest all this SMART TV stuff leaves me cold! I have it all on my Samsung and never used any of it as I have Apple TV, home cinema sound and SKY! Would be nice to have the option of just a good 3D TV with no sound as I really just need a very good monitor! :P

I have the Panasonic L42E5B (the 2012 model), actually prefer the style to the new one. Definitely get a sound bar, I have a Yamaha one, makes a massive difference. I also bought from John Lewis, impeccable customer service after a few early niggles.

Of course 1080p HD is soon to become old hat!! http://www.techradar.com/news/home-cinema/high-definition/ultra-hd-everything-you-need-to-know-about-4k-tv-1048954

Mind you the smallest you can get in 4K looks like 55"! http://www.sony.co.uk/product/tv-139-55-lcd/kd-55x9005a

Ah,Kingston, the land of my youth.Went back 25 years ago and didn't like what they'd done to it so won't go back again . I always buy LG,never had a problem;they turn on and work, what more could one ask?
