SUPER SHINY!!! Quick Detailer Prior to Drying

Sorry, no photos, the title was a complete bait-and-switch. But now that you're here why not see if you can provide some much needed and appreciated assistance :D

So, I'm trying to "standardise" my basic wash procedure to keep the Z looking its best and have stumbled across a few articles that advocate using a quick detailer between rinsing and drying. I'm a noob to 'proper' car care so haven't come across this before.

Does anybody here do this? Effectively mist the car with the quick detailer after rinsing and then dry as normal.

Moving on from that, my question is, which detailer?

I've read that the QD should be of the same brand as the wax used on the car. I've been reliably informed (2 days ago by the car's previous owner) that the last wax used on the car was Zymol.

So should I be using Zymol QD, or can I open it up a little? Will using a different brand shorten the life of the wax?

Here are the options I've found so far, I'd appreciate your thoughts:

Thanks, guys.

I use Demon Shine after last rinse and drying off - spray on like a QD, works great at preventing water spots, also aids in beading the water off. Used it on SWMBO's black Passatt, worked well (nice & shiny afterwards, and no water marks)

Thanks Mark, does it help the "shine" of your car post wash (i.e. is the car any shinier when using Demon shine against not using it?).

Also, do you notice any change to the life of your primary wax? Longer, shorter, no noticeable change?

The best QD i have used in Megs ultimate quick detailer...

I must have tried most of the others on the market and i just love the megs stuff...

x2 on Megs Ultimate. Though I have never used it between rinse and dry... May do that next time I wash.

What is the difference between a QD, glaze and sealant?

The two dodo juice products seem to have decent reviews but don't seem to be purely QD's.

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/sealants/dodo-juice-supernatural-acrylic-spritz/prod_1066.html

The supernatural acrylic spritz sounds fantastic, good shine, protects wax and lasts for 3-4 months?

I normally buy in bulk, I find it cheaper as I use QD as a drying aid, I use Chemical Guys - Speed Wipe (£25 3.8 ltrs) or Megs last touch (£28 again 3.8 ltrs) I know it is a bigger outlay but as you can dilute it it works out cheaper.

I have used a lot of dodo juice products and i think there ok,but always leave a "soft" shine... On darker colours i like the colour to be sharp and very reflective.

It depends what you want to achieve.

A QD is just a drying aid and a spritz to clean the car inbetween washes.

A glaze is just that, offers no protection at all, just beatifies the paint.

A sealant does the job of a wax...Its a protector,but synthetic..

IMHO...Poorboys black hole or AG Ultra deep shine are the 2 best products you will buy for your colour. Both are polishes with fillers, and being black you will need all the help you can get to keep the scratches and swirls at bay..

Top with a wax/sealant of your choice..

I have always used Optimum optiseal as a sealer and Zymol as a wax...I was lucky enough to obtain some royale at a good price, but Carbon is awesome if you want to treat yourself to a good wax.

As always, prep is the name of the game to get a good finish.......Remember to claybar first ;)

Its mainly to stop water spots - Lincolnshire water has more lime than H20 in it. I wouldn't say it adds to the shine much, as my car is polished, sealed and waxed on a regular basis (polished and clayed every six months, sealed (PBH) and waxed (Dodo) every month) so its usually pretty shiny. However, it definitely assists with the drying time and stops those water spots happening, and does not reduce the wax shine.

On the black Passatt, I would say it helps the shine. Being the wife's daily, it doesn't get the same attention for seal and wax that mine does, and has a real problem with dust/pollen/basically anything shows. The Demon Shine does seem to add a wetter look to the car, but its only short lived - to get a proper long-lasting shine I would need to wax it more often.

Cheers for this, great advice

Although what I'm looking to get now isn't so much a full detail kit, but a QD to assist drying maybe add a little shine.

Will the megs ultimate give a better post-wash shine than the two Dodo juice products I listed above? Although If I'm only looking for a post wash/ drying aid product would the DJ glaze be better suited than a Megs QD as I won't be looking for a between-washes product?

Sorry for all the innane questions I'm just trying to understand

Certainly makes sense, although for now I won't buy in bulk. Once I find a product I am happy with then I'll probably buy heavy amounts!

Like i said,i have used a lot of dodo juice products and i do like them but i really dont like there QD...

I found it a little "sticky".....Although i have never tried the Acrylic spritz..

I've been meaning to try Dodo Juice Red Mist Tropical for a while, although I remember reading that it might be a bit "greasy". I reckon its well worth a shout though, especially on black paint.

Funny how some products are like that - I have some Megs Ultimate Quick Wax which I find the same. I end up with fibres from the cloth all over the car after buffing it off. Most vexing :x

OK, feeling guilty so adding a couple of reflection photos following the Z's clean last night:

Basic cleaning process:

2 bucket method, with grit guard.

Rinsed
Washed with Dodo Juicd BTBM and Meguiars Lambswool Mitt
Rinsed
Dried with Chemical Guys Ultra Plush Microfiber towel

No QD as I don't have any yet. Apparently the car was last waxed a year ago (although has only covered 1500 miles in that time, and been garaged), so the shine is still looking fantastic considering. Was last waxed with Zymol Royale when detailed by OffYourMarks.

Personally, for the detailer, I prefer the sonax. Has a nice coconut smell to it, as a bonus. I'll have it with me at zedfest, if you want a quick spritz.

These days there are so many products and as many opinions as well! I'm about to add yet another opinion!

The Megs QD you mention is a good one in my experience.

For those who wax regularly a question - do you clay bar the car each time? Or do you just apply after a wash/QD type regime?

I have only clayed my car once a couple of months ago. Sure I read somewhere it only needs done once or twice a year. I just couldn't face going through the whole wash / degrease / detar / clay / wash / polish / wax process more often than that

The car gets polished and waxed once a month or so though.
