E85 Hydraulic steering conversion part 1

Phil you should offer your skills, as I think many would be happy to get it done. The only niggling issue is the dashboard light.

I'd be happy to help lend a hand for sure! I'm by no means a master mechanic though haha. Anyone thinking of doing this, feel free to reach out :D

And yeah, Zed Coding based in Birmingham can clear the light - was recommended by a member on the FB UK owners group. This is assuming you go down the route of removing the entire EPS motor/ecu - though you will lose function of the Sport mode button if you have it. I want to keep this for the sake of the exhaust valve actuation & throttle response.

From what I gather, you can simply remove the motor from the column, leaving the remaining electrics in place which won't cause the EPS warning lamp to flash up - https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=143160. This is ideal since it reduces weight (apparently about 10kg) and some suggest the motor, if left on the column, will cause drag if it's made inoperable (from pulling the fuse for example), which just doesn't sit right in my mind. Still yet to get this part done, so will see how that goes

Don't know if there's a way to tag people directly but I want to give a massive thanks to all of you guys who have provided information on this post, especially to:

- hydro_z4

Off the back of your guidance info (and numerous video snippets on YouTube), I've completed the installation on my 2004 3.0i M54 - with a fair level of fettering to get things nice and neat. And in actuality it seems to be one of those jobs which feels harder than it is in practice.

Happy to help others who may need help on the process - I've got a few photos which might be of use too
Hi Phil, I have an 04 3.0i M54. Been wanting to embark on this journey, by chance do you mind sharing your photos/experience? I'm a total newbie so anything that I can use to hand hold myself would be super appreciated!

Hi Nocturnal, yeah of course, I made a thread about this earlier last year: https://z4-forum.com/threads/hydraulic-steering-conversion-for-m54-engines.150640/

Should have all the photos etc. I think there's a bit of a discrepancy on PS pump types as far as my understanding goes, so other's knowledge may be worth seeking here. Happy to lend a hand if you're local to Northamptonshire, good luck with the swap!
