Castrol 5w 30 Magnatec Stop Start any good?

I read somewhere that this was a great oil to use if you want a nice quiet engine. Anyone ever tried it? What are your thoughts?

I have any E85 2.5se.

On AutoDoc it shows up as suitable. But on Halfords it shows up as unsuitable?! On the back of the bottle it does confirm LL04 spec.

I can’t imagine how different that oil is in reality to normal magnatec oil of the same spec.
Sounds like marketing bullsh!t unless there is something radically different in the polymer design or something to regulate the thermal properties if that’s actually an issue with oil and stop/start.

Edit. Yep. I’m calling bs on this one:

Why do you need engine oil specially designed to protect against stop-start wear? All that constant stopping and starting in traffic causes increased microscopic engine wear.

Thanks Chris.

Do you think it would be an issue to use if my car doesn't have stop start? I already ordered it from AutoDoc :headbang:

I don’t think you will notice ANYTHING out of the ordinary as compared to normal oil.
Who knows, maybe your engine WILL run a bit quieter, if that’s what you’re looking to achieve (?)

An awful lot of engine noise is ancillary. Injectors ticking, belts moving, exhaust and inlet noise which an oil will never help. Sounds like bloke in the pub talk to me.

BMW's oil spec isn't particularly difficult to meet so there's no end of choices. Because of this most oil is sold on marketing. The big names are very adept at this and charge accordingly. On many car forums and Facebook pages there's thousands of people that will want Mobil 1 as their oil of choice without caring that it's the wrong spec.

If it's got LL04 on the bottle, it'll be fine; I don't buy an expensive oil if I didn't need to. I've got a 280k 320d that only ever gets the cheapest LL04 going. Doesn't burn any, runs like a watch.

Just thought I would update on this. The new oil seems to have worked a treat! Super quite and smooth one she has warmed up. Sitting inside you can barely tell she is running :driving:

Thanks again for the help
