It’s the kind of product which would require a full read of the small print.

If you have to prove the tyre failed, and was not ‘abused’ or damaged by not paying attention to pot holes etc, you will be unlikely to recover any losses.

It very much depends on the contract wording.

well its just a form of insurance... generally speaking, for first party insurance i only insure what i can't afford to replace.

probably not something i'd consider, for two reasons... firstly, the guaranteed value is on a sliding scale based on tyre wear, so the average cover over the life of the tyre is only 50% of its value. and secondly, you're very unlikely to damage more than one tyre at a time, though you've got cover for all 4.

So you might pay £30 now, and then in 6 months time hit a pothole and get a bulge in one tyre, which you then claim on the insurance, and get £60 off the cost of a new tyre. doesnt really seem worth it to me!

Good points... guess tyres aren't quite as bad when only buying one!!!

Now just need to decide between the contis and rainsports....

Thanks guys

I had tyre insurance in my last set because it was cheap enough to add to my cart on 123tyres. But when I actually got a punctured and read the small print I couldn't be bothered to deal with them. They only pay 50% (or only 25% for the second year of insurance) of the value of the tyre which must have more than 3mm across the entirety of it and you must buy it first then prove it was punctured, etc. So a lot of hassle to most likely be told they wouldn't pay the £40 (50% of a front tyre) or so.

Oh yeah, they were in Germany too.
