Michelin or Bridgestone tyres ??

Guys,

I am due to replace my RF tyres and I am wondering which tyre has the better compound and all round performance ? Bridgestone Potenza or Michelin Pilots ?
My car is a 2.0 roadster.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I recently put unisport rainsport 3's on the rear of mine. Very impressed so would recommend reading write ups on them as I cannot fault them.

My advice would be, whatever brand you choose ditch the runflats and get an inflation kit etc. Once you have done that the new Michelin PS4 are way way better than the Bridgestones but avoiding the runflats entirely will make a hugely positive difference to your ride and handling. Also consider the new Goodyear F1 A3. Great tyre by all accounts

none of them their just overpriced name brands used both before if you want a good brand then go for yokohama

Kumho, vredestein, uniroyal, hankook are all decent for a lot less too

and those pirelli RFT were the worst tyres ive bought in my life. I sold them after 3 months of neraly crashing every time it rained they cost me £200 each bloody waste of money. I repalced them with a set of nanakang costing £350 for 4 which out preformed them never again Pirelli P zero

+1. Especially in the wet. Cheaper than Michelins on average too.

I was a little annoyed to discover they don't do the F1 A3 yet in the M Rear size. It left me with a bit of a dilemma last week. Stick with the standard 255/35 and get the F1 A3 or to continue with my plan to go to M sizes and get the 255/40 in the F1 A2. To be fair I'm glad I stuck with my plan to go the M size as the ride is a fair bit better now, as is grip. Not sure how much I can attribute the increase in ride quality to the change to the higher profile as I also went from Conti 5's to the F1's but I imagine its most of it. I change to the M tyre size following the advice I've had from some members on here so a big thank you to them! As an added bonus the speedo will even read more accurate now, well at least it will when I change the fronts to match which I'm going to do soon now I'm happy with rears.

Personal preference for me is Michelins as they are good in wet and dry but also give good wear and feel. Had Hankooks before as I needed tyres very quickly as the tyres on the car when purchase were a) crap and b) perished on the inside so would not hold pressure.

Hankooks are good but Michelins are better. Now on MPSS which are incredible, but I depends on how you drive and whether you think just in performance or performance v wear rate.

:)

My Alpina is on Goodyear F1's and sticks like 54it to a blanket in all weathers.

235's front and 265 rears - Will 265's not go on an //M Mack ?

I put Goodyear F1 A2's on my old 2.0 sport.
Ride was soooo much better, and i was pleasantly surprised at how well they did in the wet, esp on the country roads to work.
Am considering doing to same to the current zed too.

OP, out of the two I'd go for Michelins PS3 or PS4. Not sure if they do them in runflats but don't get runflats! Don't ever get them again! Plenty of options if you want a solution to non RFT, you have inflator kits and also good old fashioned space saver. Then if you're fearless there's always the likes of AA (etc) recovery...

If you're not too fussy on brands but just want a good tyre, been discussed before but possibly go with Goodyear F1's or also we'll reputed and more cost effective are the likes of Uniroyal RS3's and Vredestein.

always used Michelins on previous cars.

Currents switched to michelin on rear as bridstones were worn and kept getting nails in them (3 in 4 month)

Still got bridge stones on front but will be switching to michelin once need changing

My experience of tyres is that there's almost always a trade-off somewhere. So, obviously, longevity can mean a hard ride, superb (dry) grip usually equals a short life and so on.

Michelin PS2s seemed to defy this, but on a very well set-up 911, they would 'float' momentarily - almost like aquaplaning - on the front end above 150 and were worse at 160+. Now, that's a bit quick to start worrying about what's keeping you attached to the road.

Z4s may well not have this problem, of course, but I ain't buying a set to find out.

Neither for me. Bridgestone are woeful and my Michelin PSS have degraded badly with cracks all over them, never had such issues with Pirelli where ill be returning to if not trying a new brand entirely. Hardly use the Z at the moment for fear of a blowout. Tread is 5mm and tyres are at proper pressure, they're not even 3 years old. Michelin tell me they shouldn't be used in winter as they're summer tyres and they will crack and fail in winter. Never had that said or happen with any other summer tyres. Lots of money down the pan.

3 in 4 months!! Mighty unlucky mate... maybe it was a sign to get the Michelins on

tbh i dont know how long the bridgestones had been on car, but they was cracking too which probably made it easier

before that id only ever had 2 in 12 years.

Never had a Michelin show signs of cracking and there usually on car 3 years+ before need changing

My experience is the same. I've got a crap set of Potenza's on the front which look like they've been around a while. Michelin's I've never had problems with. Always go for Sport so PS2's and maybe next I'll try the PS4 or SS.

Quite supprised by your comments Busterboo and Maniac. Although I haven't been on any 'airbases recently' to get up to that sort of speed on the 'runway' and my PS2's are classed as summer as well, though I've used them through winters without issues.
