roof grime

I usually use the autoglym stuff to do my roof but it seems to have had a bit of a harsh winter. a combo of being outside/always under trees/me not being as good at washing due to moving and work and I think mostly as it sits a lot again as I rarely drive more than 20 miles a week at the mo so it never gets warm etc

its got quite a bit of the usual light green mold stuff on it around the usual places i.e. the bulkhead, but I can also see it flecked over the whole roof in places.

is there a better anti fungal treatment for it that will lift the mold? I remember reading about using a combo of cleaner and a washing tablet to lift it out.

I think the standing hasn't been great for it so a half cover may be in order after a good clean!

Autoglym stuff is good but you need to be really thorough. I used to use something like this below to really go at the mould and grime once it appears, scrub hard so it lifts away and the liquid is really worked in and soaped up.

Then treatment with renovo cleaner, working it in hard then letting it soak in itself, before washing it off with absolutely loads of water and a big sponge or towel.

If its really bad, try diluted Miltons Sterilising Fluid painted on and allowed to soak in before agitating and washing off thoroughly.

As above, some soft top cleaner followed by Milton sterilising fluid which will kill the mildew spores.

Mist the roof with water then spray on some diluted Milton fluid, leave it for as long as you can before drying out and agitate with one of those cheapo alloy brushes like this http://www.screwfix.com/p/alloy-wheel-cleaning-brush/5638H?kpid=5638H&cm_mmc=Google-_-Product%20Listing%20Ads-_-Sales%20Tracking-_-sales%20tracking%20url&cm_mmc=Google-_-Shopping%20-%20Auto%20and%20Cleaning-_-Shopping%20-%20Auto%20and%20Cleaning&gclid=CJCO6cmBoMsCFWYOwwodpOYIIA

Rinse off with plenty of water and see how it looks

Done 3 x Z roofs now all with good results , sure you know the in's & outs Dom but for others who don't here's my method
Good hoovering all over first
Then the autoglym cleaner with a green fleeced sponge that Ste has shown which works well to remove grime, slime & those annoying shiny parts
Leave it overnight to dry before using the AG sealant which i mix a £1 bottle of black liquid shoe dye
Sprayed liberally & spread evenly with sponge supplied
Then fortunately the car won,'t see much rain which i guess helps keep it looking fresh

I used to use old fashioned soap suds and warm water first when my roof got bad. Then followed up with AG treatment on the cleaned roof for seasonal protection.

cheers guys, I used a relatively stiff nylon bristled brush last time, a bit like an over sized dish brush to good effect. working in tiny circles. Almost a case of rest the brush on and agitate. A damn good hoover with a bristled attachment helps no end to start off with. basically something to agitate the crap off. Wasn't sure on what to use as a anti mold agent.

Here's what I do:

Anti-mould agent is a good idea, but I also use a half cover all winter and through the weekdays in spring and summer which prevents mould and bird poo!

going do mine end of april/may again when the better weather kicks in as i've no garage, i redyed/proofed etc last year
with irish weather basically doing it once a year has to happen if it's living outdoors, the green comes back quick enough.

it's a pity you need to proof it after using the hood cleaners to get rid of the green though

A good old spring scrub with the AG hood cleaner process only seems to have brought back to black, a few stubborn grime bits were focused on with a clean AG wheel brush, the end result of beading is superb to watch
