Viewing a Z4 today!

Hi guys, I’m off to view a 2006 2.0SE with 56k miles today.

Photos looks great, but is there anything common I should look out for?

It’s been covering roughly 800 miles per year and kept in a garage for 14 years with the same owner.

Thanks,

I’d be wary of buying anything with an N46 engine in it. There are lots of E85’s available with M54’s - these two engine options are chalk and cheese in terms of reliability.

Agreed. The 2.0L should be REALLY cheap (even with the low mileage) as they are just not desirable. An early M54 will be cheap aswell but can handle mileage (and everything else) much much better. And the six cylinders sound, and go, much better.

Car looks well. Check maintenance records as 2.0 can have exhaust manifold issues. They are still good cars and have a solid fan base. The car has rare wheels that you could sell to recoup money if you wanted @ZeddyPaul is looking for 202s.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I've always thought having a straight 6 was one of the Z4s unique features, but the fours do have their fans and it does look good in that photo.

It's probably too late now but make sure the electric roof works properly, and let us know how you get/got on!

So I bought it!

A couple of things I’ve found.

1. The electric roof opens perfectly but requires abit of a helping hand at the start of its closing process.

2. The blowers are only working on the 1st speeds and don’t really output much airflow.
3. The aircon light won’t switch on.

I found a receipt from 2021 where the car had a mode cleared for the heater blowers where they wouldn’t turn on. It’s says the transport mode was turned off and fault cleared. I wonder whether it has anything to do with it?

The car had a new battery two weeks ago, so again maybe that triggered something.

Any thoughts would be great…

Other than that I’ve driven 130 miles in it already this afternoon through country lanes, mountains etc.. all seems fine drive wise. Quick enough for the Sunday drive, won’t keep up with my 330E though 🤣👌👍

Roof- the pump head may be on the way out but if it’s been relocated it’s easy to swap up with down- then gravity will open it and the good side of the pump will close it

The other issues are transport mode- get someone near you to delete it

So I bought it!
Congratulations.

Transport Mode was supposed to be deleted as part of the PDI, but so many dealers just seem to have cleared it - presumably because it was easier?

colb runs Zedshed Cymru in Newport and can probably help you out, but you'll need to make one more post before you can send him a DM.
