Overheating & Bonnet release cable

Hi Guys,

I have a BMW Z4 e85 3.0l auto from 2003

First I'm seeking help with an overheating issue. When the car is running it'll stay at temp for about 20-30 mins and then start overheating. This is when it's stationary I've not been able to try it whilst its moving to see if it still overheats.
It has enough coolant in, I have a feeling maybe the coolant line may need bleeding? But I'm unsure on how to do so if anyone can advise or advise what else they think it may be.

Secondly is bonnet release cable. My cable has been on its way out for a while struggling to open the bonnet. I believe it hss now snapped as the lever is completly floppy and has no tension. I have purchased a replacement front cable as my understanding is this is usually the part that goes, but I'm unable find any video or anything with instructions on replacing it, if anyone could assist that'd be great.

Overheating can be a number of things including an airlock, thermostat etc

However I’ve had that before where the water pump impeller had failed and the flow was about 20% or normal. I’d check that

Bonnet release can be made by popping the grilles out and manually tripping the catch by hand or with a screwdriver, or pulling the cable. If it’s stiff have a helper press down on the bonnet while doing that
 
Have you got any codes? The thermostat has a secondary heating element in it that can fail. This is used to vary the operating range of the thermostat.

I have the bonnet open, Im wanting to replace the actual cable.

I'll check to see if I have any codes, as it sounds like it could be as the temperature is just fine for 20-30 mins then starts raising.
 
Bonnet cable runs from the cable handle, down to the drivers side engine bay where it joins the next part of the cable via a joint, then from there to the actual latch

Hi!

Sorry for delay in replies,
I've been quite busy as I havent long graduated uni and went into full time work among some other things.

Bonnet latch was a collection of things, the cable connecting to the release handle in the cabin had streched and the latch itself had seized so both has been replaced.

The thermometer threw up no codes so I tried to give the system a bleed which was fine so I'm now believing it is the thermometer and am now looking to replace that.

I was wondering as ive seen direct replacements but also aluminium housing replacements if anyone has tried the aluminium one or if its worth it?

Normal temp is right in the middle of the gauge? Can you feel the radiator to see if its evenly warm all over? The top hose should be hot and the bottom will be much cooler as that's the way the water circulates so cooler water is coming out of the bottom.
