Air Con help needed

Been asked for help with an M54 2.5i. Aircon was working fine until about two weeks ago. Then it stopped getting cold.
Owner has just had it completely checked over, emptied, vacuum tested, refilled but still no cooling going on.
The pipes in and out of the bulkhead both remain at an ambient sort of temperature, whereas I'd be expecting one cold and the other hot.
The fan kicks in ok.
When you select the aircon on you can see the pulley engage and spin on the compressor. This tells me that the pressure switch is working and telling the magnetic clutch to engage.
So, what is left?
Is it possible for the compressor clutch to engage but somehow for the compressor not to function correctly?
Or is there possibly another issue somewhere?
@Pondy - have we finally landed in your area of expertise?

I've got *exactly* this same problem on my E70 - trying to find the time to get it looked at. I get a sort of gurgling sound from behind the dash but that's it. The only other part of the system as far as I know beyond pump and heat exchangers is the expansion valve, of which faults can be a thing...

If there is enough refrigerant (gas) in the system, the compressor clutch pulls in but there is no cooling it is most likely the compressor is knackered. If the valves are shot it will spin but won't compress anything.
The only other scenario I can think of is if there is a total blockage somewhere in the system. This could only really be the receiver/drier or perhaps at the expansion valve. Both very unlikely, though, and the vacuum pump should pick that up if the operator knows what they are doing.

And there is no need to be feckin sarky! Especially when asking for help.
You know what, take your attitude and feck off! If you can't see that this was a genuine request (hence why I actually referenced you in it) then you need to take yourself round the back of the hangar and have a word with yourself.

I was halfway through typing a thank you for your assistance, then this latest tripe popped up. You really are a pillock of the highest order!

So "have we FINALLY landed in your area of expertise" wasn't a sarcastic back-handed compliment, no?
