Remote Mirror Moves only 1 way

Hi:

My drivers side mirror is only adjustable left and right. It will not move up or down. Is there a fix or must I replace it? The Passenger side one works fine.

Have you tried a small amount pressure to help it along when pressing the button?

It may have got stuck.

It’s worth moving the mirror positions every so often just to prevent this from happening.

Sounds knackered to me

The switch contacts do get oxidised through lack of use - as above it's worth operating them briefly once a month or so. Also, a spray with switch contact cleaner lubricant is always a good thing. However if your passenger one works fine it's likely to be the mirror motor / linkage.

Thanks for the suggestion but I have tried that with no luck. My mirrors get moved frequently since my wife and I both drive the car and we set the mirrors radically differently.

Sadly, this may be the answer but I want to see if there is a "hillbilly" fix out there.

Agreed, since the passenger side one works fine, it has to be something unique to the driver side mirror. Sigh... :(

Bump

Hi Harry/all,

Did you manage to resolve this?

My door mirrors only seem to adjust left - it’s very smooth in doing so, no knocks or clicking. I can’t adjust the mirrors up/down or right.

Any ideas?

Thank you 😎

If both do the same then it’s most likely to be the switch.

Thank you chap, why didn’t I think of that!!

Looks like I’m on the hunt for one 😃

Good news, today finally managed to get the car out of transport mode and the AC is working beautifully - perfectly timed given the weather. Thanks @enuff_zed 😎

You can dismantle the switch and clean it quite easily. Convertible switches are particularly prone to getting moisture in them which can gunk things up.

One of my first jobs was to clean out the passenger window switch on the driver's side. Been fine for 4 years now.

Thank you, can the same be applied to the actual mirror adjustment switch (circular)? (both window switches are working)

What would you recommend to use for cleaning? Thank you 😄

Sorry, I meant it's a single unit and all comes apart together and both window and mirror functions are constructed much the same way. I probably just used some brake cleaner or ethanol.
