What have you done to your E89 today

There are a few but the cost / time / complexity allied to many folks lack of understanding means I only know about 10 folks who have high end ish E89s et ups

Well, what a nightmare morning!

New wind deflector arrived from BMW (crazy price for what it is). Put the roof down to fit, no problems. Putting roof back up, didn’t complete its cycle and soft close mechanism just kept triggering on off.

By sheer dumb luck I managed to get the roof to complete its cycle (was horrible, did it in clunky stages). Soft close is not working now.

From what I understand it’s a common issue. Found a thread on here, but OP seems to have removed the initial posts and YouTube video on steps to rectify:

Anyone recommend a resource to follow?

Indeed.
I've never seen that live on the road in Germany, even if I know someone who owns one.

Testing / Certification of the Revo-Rack

Tested to

tuv-logo.png

Revo-Rack has been independently safety tested and evaluated by TUV Italy. Part of the global TUV testing and certification group. Please see TUV Sud

ISO PAS 11154:2006 specifies the minimum safety requirements for all roof load carriers intended for mounting on or above the roofs of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles with a maximum authorized total mass up to 3,5 t (ISO M08) as defined in ISO 1176. See ISO:11154. Revo-Rack passed these tests / standard.

There is no standard for luggage racks. We believe it's the only convertible luggage rack for sale globally that has passed these safety and load tests. It also passed the European Directive for the General Safety 2002/95/CE.

Revo-Rack is officially , safe secure and stable.

Revo-Rack is more secure we think than a traditional luggage rack that uses relatively small clamps on the boot/trunk lid edge ; and thus spreads the load of the rack over a very small area. With three 120mm vacuum cups Revo-Rack spreads the load over almost 300cm square / 40" square.

The testing / certification process included ;

  • Driving with the Revo-Rack attached at over 200km/h / 125mph at the Porsche Nardo test track in Southern Italy with a 20kg/45lbs load

  • Driving on the infamous Belgium block paved road with the rack secured again loaded with 20kg/45lbs load

  • Emergency braking tests from 80kph/50mph - loaded with 20kg/45lbs the rack stayed secure

  • Speed tests at 130km/h 180km/h 80mph/110mph

  • 10 minute pulling force assessment with 645N applied approx 65kg/145lbs to the loaded rack. The rack stayed attached and did not bend or deform.

We believe Revo-Rack is the only convertible luggage rack for sale globally that has passed these safety tests.

That's pretty nasty..looks like a Russian front line job!-;)

Ever since, I’ve been anxious about not having a spare, so purchased a space saver from The Wheel Shop.

Arrived today, minus the storage bag and z4 jack pad adapter!

That's a shame. Still you can get the jacking pads for less than a fiver on Ebay, and they should have some storage bag options too.

I bought a jack from an E46 3 Series as the top is designed to fit the jacking points!

Not today, but yesterday, I coded the head unit from stereo to hi-fi. Instantly notice the difference in the sound. Just need to set the gains on the amps again, when I get the chance.

And...IYHO does it sound better?

I did the same to mine when I changed out all the speakers and added external amplification. It’s the right thing to do if you’re adding a DSP too.

What I will say is that it’ll reduce the low frequency boost that the stock equalisation applies to the front channels. This will mean that you’ll have less bass, until you perform some form of correction.

A flat frequency response is always a good starting point but in a car, the reality is that the speaker placement and cabin dynamics make it less than ideal from a listening perspective.
