17,000 miles on my 2019 Z4 30i and was told my tires are close to replacement.

These are the original run-flats and I was surprised that they are close to replacement. Is this normal? Just road trip driving with no racing. What are your experiences with this type of tire and should I consider going to the non run-flat tire instead. I have researched this and it seems a majority of people have switched to the non run-flat style.

Since there is no room for a spare tire what precautions have you taken in terms of a repair kit, etc.?

This is the same link about the service visit to the dealership. If you can open and see the video he reviews the thread depth on all the tires. Replacement cost from the dealer is $1,456 plus $323 for the 4-wheel alignment.

I would say 17k out of a set of tyres is pretty dam good let alone on a sports car. If they are the originals, then they are 7 years old and should be replaced anyway. Are they showing any abnormal signs of wear? If they are get them aligned.

I dont know what the new cars are like but mine has a tyre inflator and tyre goo to get where you need to be. If its a runflat you can drive 50mph for up to 50miles I think. Enough to get you to a tyre shop.

Run flats arent great for sports cars, they tram line, super hard sidewall and the wheels can crack if you hit a pot hole hard enough. Ive got rid of them on all my cars. Here in the UK it generally a good idea to declare it on the insurance when you swap.

Why are you dealing with the dealer? Go to an independent tyre shop. They are probably trying to sell you Star stamped BMW runflats that always cost more.

Your comments are appreciated! I have continued my research and will be going to a local BMW specialty shop here in Colorado Springs that has great reviews. No, I am not going back to the dealer for the tires either. No more run-flats for my baby!

Hi this is a G29 Z4? Didn't think they were fitted with run flats...

In many markets 20i /30i came with runflats and M40i 'normal' tyres
every day is a school day 🧑‍🎓, Peter your knowledge is boundless... you're becoming a bit like ORAC in Blake's 7 🤣

Think yourself lucky. My wife's Focus (yes a Focus) has just tipped over 8k miles and the fronts are toast. The rears aren't far behind TBH.

17,000 miles doesn't seem unreasonable for tyre life.

The rears on my Z4 (albeit an earlier model) only lasted 15,000 and the fronts will need replacing fairly soon.

I see the new tyres won't be run-flats. My main back-up plan is a full size (front) wheel in the trunk, some Tyre-Weld and a compressor plus recovery membership for belt and braces!

Some people also carry "Rats-tail" hole repair kits.

My rears have done 9,000 miles and they are down to about 4mm and I'm by no means heavy footed!

Your wife must drive like a loony
It's the tyres, not the wife. Car came with ridiculous 'semi-racing' Pirelli rosso corsas, which wear down just by looking at them. Only tyres I've ever seen which get warm on a freezing cold winters day on a 20 mile run.

Questioning whether 17k is good or not made me think of something I read about donkey's years ago was that apparently you can drive into a tire shop in the States and buy a 30/50/100,000 mile tire. I never quite grasped the mechanisms behind it (I don't think it was a warranty scheme) but I remember thinking that they must have all the grip of a soap covered banana on an ice rink.

17k and I was heading towards my FOURTH pair of rears..............

I'd be both delighted an astonished to be getting 5 figures from a set never mind 17k
