Roof service past error A6A5 and trunk stuck open shells in but not latched

So, you think the source of initial malfunction is the locking mechanism not working properly. Thats why rear module stuck open.
But when I jump the power direct to the motor, it is moving fine, and microswitches working fine and changed the state. Also, when I used INPA, it managed to unlock, but could not lock it again using INPA...

....when I used INPA, it managed to unlock, but could not lock it again using INPA...
If you can unlock it with INPA, locking should be possible as well if there isn't a mechanical issue with this system.
INPA forces the CTM to power up the one or other wire to drive the motor forward or reverse.

And an issue with locking corresponds to your initial picture.

The more I dive into uncovering the fault, the more amazed I become by the engineering of this car. Initially, I thought it was complex and lacking in maintenance engineering, but, as they saying...."fear of the unknown is the enemy of knowledge". It turned out that the car's engineering was designed with a solution for every possible fault... Brilliant!
Thank you, Robbi, I wouldn't have reached this stage of learning and diagnosing the car without you and the wealth of technical and engineering knowledge you shared 😊. You must be so proud of this level of knowledge....

If you see any chance to replace your CTM with one of an E89 friend give it a try.

The obscure situation is, that there isn't any chance to drive the roof forward or even reverse, though we can't see any wrong sensor signal, component, motor or fuse.

Status Window Regulater shows the registration status (min/max positions) of all 4 windows, which seems to be not given: "not thaught".

Status Interne Zustände shows the current position of all 4 windows:
Front - both closed
Rear (Hinten) - both opened

Is there a way to fool the status of the front windows?

Another idea:
If you take the roof package with a 2nd person's help out of the trunk (you know, brass front screw on the pump...), then the roof shells are "standing" packed on top of the seats.
In this situation you have a free view on the front locking system. Now you can try to open/close the locking system once again with INPA CTM F6 F4/S-F4.
  • If it works fine, then the package seem to block the correct functionality when placed into the trunk.
  • If it doesn't work fine in both directions when on top of the car, there is an issue with this unit.

Another idea:
[...] there is an issue with this unit.
Well, I remember an issue with this unit on a Z4 in the past:
the two microswitches didn't switch in a correct/exact way and blocked the whole system.

This locking system had to be replaced with a new one.

I've just tried, with no success:cry:

I tried to reduce number of screenshoots;), For CTM
View attachment 288323
For JBBF
View attachment 288324

When I select JBBF I got this error
View attachment 288325
for the CTM "1st picture", at the top left corner, it indicates E89 which is correct for the car type
For the JBBF, at the top left corner indicating E70!!!!
Maybe thats why we shouldn't trust "limits not taught".... Also no option to open the trunk lid?

Morning,

I just mentioned that as well, but can't imagine how you got this mixture to run.

But you were able to open the trunk lid with INPA and JBBF, or not?

This is a download link I used last year:

On the latest posts there are some hints on installation issues, but you could give it a try.

Found another page with a working download link. It contains INPA 5.0.6, which I'm using as well.

I am downloading this, but I already have this version
I could not find JBBF.ipo for E89 only for E87, I will try the new downlad first but if no success, I will use the one for E87.
Thank you Robbi

This is my current installation path for INPA:
c:\ec-apps\inpa\bin

Interesting:
The header of the mainpages shows Version 5.00, the About box 5.06.

I've found JBBF70.* and JBBF87.prg as "highest" version in my setups in the following folders...
c:\ec-apps\inpa\sgdat
c:\ediabas\Ecu
c:\ec-apps\ista\Ecu
c:\ediabas\EnglishEcu

... and JBBF87.ipo in
c:\ec-apps\inpa\sgdat
c:\ec-apps\inpa_5.00\sgdat
c:\ec-apps\inpa_5.06\sgdat
c:\ec-apps\ncsexper\sgdat
c:\ec-apps\nfs\sgdat

... and JBBF87.ini in
c:\ec-apps\ncsexper\sgdat
c:\ec-apps\inpa_5.00\sgdat

... and JBBF87.ini in
c:\ec-apps\ncsexper\sgdat

... and g_JBBF.grp in
c:\ediabas\ecu

Currently I'm checking the configuration files:

C:\EC-Apps\INPA\CFGDAT
E89.GER
E89.ENG

Interesting, both language config files list JBBF70!

ENTRY= JBBF70,Junction Box Beifahrer JBBF,
ENTRY= JBBF70,Junction Box Passenger JBBF,

Interesting and to be checked in your UK Setup folders:

C:\EC-Apps\INPA\SGDAT\jbbf70.ips
*.ips = source file
*.ipo = compiled object file

*.IPS are scriptfiles and can be edited. My jbbf.ips has the following function:

SCREEN s_steuern()

[...]
ftextout("< F4 > Zusatzwasserpumpe / Wasserventil" ,10,5,0,1);
ftextout("< F5 > Bi-Stabiles Relais kurz aktivieren" ,12,5,0,1);
ftextout("< F6 > Heckklappe öffnen" ,14,5,0,1);
[...]

This is the required function!
ftextout("< F6 > Open trunk lid" ,14,5,0,1);

As changes have to be compiled, currently it's not an idea to update a *.ips source file.

Attached my jbbf70.ipo object file.

OK, bad news error in INPA when selecting JBBF...
Good news is I open trunk using ISTA and used INPA to lock and unlock the cowl locking mechanism, it is working fine 😃

I also check power windows using ISTA, and all shows high, not sure if that means open, but took screenshot and I will add it here
