Z3 project...no going back now!

This is one where you have to overcome your natural inclinations to ‘sell.sell.sell’. It truly is a thing of beauty and an achievement to be proud of. As you have said yourself you would never find another like it. Keep it. Enjoy admiring your handiwork and drive it. You are a lucky man.👍
I wanted to come over to see you with it Ian, but I didn't want to travel far until I was 100% sure it was all sorted. It is a bit late in the year now, so hopefully next Spring??

That would be great. I know Stuart is keen to see it too. So I’m sure we could organise something.👍

I changed the engine cover 'badges' today as I wasn't happy with them.

Much better Andrew. Can you do anything with the top of that radiator?
I suppose I could paint it but it is hard to get to now without removing the bonnet. I have cleaned it but it has some aluminium corrosion.
I don't know what happened to the rad in a previous life as it has a bent 'lip' on one side.

The flash on the camera picks up the 'grime', it doesn't really notice in real life.

I love this car. It is far and away the best automotive thing I have ever owned for so many reasons. A work of art to behold, that's what it is! :)

Spent the evening "de-condensationing" it and warming the engine up as it hasn't been used in a while. The M54 purrs like a kitten; everything is now 100% sorted mechanically and aesthetically.

I have had a (VERY) frustrating few weeks with the Fauxrrari. Upon taxing it at the start of March, I thought it was best to take it out into the wild for the first time this year.
The speedo didn't work! Then after a couple of minutes it just went nuts and was registering all sorts of random speeds.
So I took it back home and had a look at the wiring. Didn't find anything untoward. Long story short, it has taken four weeks, the speedo being sent back to the manufacturer (who didn't find any problem with it), days of head scratching, re-wiring and re-wiring again to finally get it working today.
Half the interior had to come out to remove the speedo and get to the wiring.

So I spent the rest of the day putting everything back (with a few subtle improvements). Looks better than ever and (hopefully) with a fully working speedo again!

Feast thou eyes......

What. Was wrong with the speedometer in the end?
It was picking up 'noise/ interference' from somewhere. No idea where, or why. It was a process of changing wiring around and swapping earths until it sorted it out.
I know nothing about electronics so it was just trial and error. There was no-one to help, either.

At one stage the speedo was registering speeds of 534mph (in my cul de sac!!). The odometer has a computer which saves max speeds. It was just nuts.

Of course, the problem may an intermittent fault, the frequency of which increased temporarily and has now decreased again. You’ll only know for sure when you next find yourself driving at 534 mph!

Wow! I don’t know how I missed this thread but I’ve binged read it and your car is beautiful! 😍

I don't think it was, as every time I took the car out (after changing a few things at a time) it did exactly the same things. It was bizarre, as it wouldn't register anything for about a mile, then would just go nuts, with the needle flying everywhere. It was as though something needed to 'warm up' before it would register, then would register random speeds constantly.

Then after being returned from the manufacturer, who said he tested it and found no faults, it worked perfectly. Coincidence?? All I did was moved one earth connection from one post to another and disconnect the radio aerial (which is a shielded co-axial cable).

I will never know, but I have a feeling he did 'something' which fixed the speedo; even if it 'reset' when he put it on his test rig.
