Take heart in the fact that it’s less work to keep it running than an original would be!
Good point and you are right.
There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the car, or engine. Just my naivety and lack of experience with this type of thing.

I am coming to terms with the fact that I am somewhat of a perfectionist (didn't realise until recently) so anything being not quite right annoys me. Massively. ;)

I hope you don’t have mirrors in your house :poke:

The honeymoon period lasted until this afternoon. So roughly 24 hours.
Took the car out in the gorgeous weather. 1/2 mile from home ABS and DSC lights came on. Knackered front left wheel speed sensor!

FFS...:headbang::headbang:

It has taken me nearly 10 months to finally work out what the problem with the ride quality of the car was.
But I now have and have now sorted it!

The ride quality was terrible; crashy AND bouncy. It got so bad I really didn't like to drive the car.
I have BC coilovers on the car, so got the ride heights correct for the 'stance' that was required. But the ride was awful. I have spent much time adjusting damping force and tyre pressures, as I initially thought it was a combination of big profile 'balloon' tyres and 'racing' type shocks and springs.

I was getting to the stage where "I couldn't see the wood for the trees".

It was the front dampers. They were set miles too high in their mounts, so when the car was dropped onto them they were at full compression so there was no front damping, or shock absorbing. The tyres were taking up most of the damping, then the springs were doing the rest. Which made the car bounce like a manic space hopper and crash over every imperfection.

Luckily I don't think I have damaged anything. In my defence, the suspension instructions are terrible and the design of the front coilovers is a bit stupid (with a continuous thread all the way up the 200mm tube), so it was difficult to work out what the problem was. Especially as me and suspension set up have never crossed paths before!

But I've sorted it. It now rides like a 'normal' car. So the sale price has just gone up (a lot)!

Exciting day today! I got my door cards back from the trimmer (he hasn't finished the rest yet), fitted them immediately. I like them, I like them a lot. He has done a great job with the period door pockets. Just what I wanted.

Recently read through this entire thread and this was an amazing project, but the photos above are confusing. This was after the car had been painted, as you were refitting the interior? So how come the edge of the left door is blue? Is it still blue now? 😉

I think I know which picture you are referring to.
That isn't the door, it's the chassis of the car internally, as the door is shut in the photo. Yes it is still blue underneath but all that (and everything else blue) is covered by trim pieces. There is no sign of any blue anywhere without removing stuff.

Doesn’t it fester in your brain knowing that you’ve cut corners with painting, Mr OCD? How many other corners did you cut during the build? No wonder you barely drive it!

Without taking it back to a bare shell how the hell is anyone supposed to paint the interior of the metalwork?
The 'blue bits' aren't proper paint anyway, just overspray from when the car was originally painted at the factory. Every car is painted the same; manufacturers don't waste paint on parts that are never going to be seen or corrode. Just a bit of primer to seal the steel.
And NO, I haven't cut any corners. I don't cut corners.

OCD I don't have. I just like things to be right. OCD is a mental illness. Striving for perfection is a good thing and used to be the norm. Sadly not anymore; which is why the UK is in such a sorry state IMO.

Go on, Son!
