Low revs when stopped and occasionally cuts out out

OK so order a filter assembly rather than just the filter....sorry to keep asking questions

Yes. Call your local dealer and get the part number for the filter and filter housing. Look up online to see if it is cheaper elsewhere (but still genuine).

I usually buy MANN oil filters on Amazon, but Mahle are also an OEM. No need to buy BMW branded comsumables.

Bit odd.
I have never had the that centre piece come off the hexagon cap.
Does it clip in or screw?

When i have pulled off filter it stays in the cap.

That's because it shouldn't come off!

I've always assumed that it is a single piece but I can't see anything broken so it might clip on.

For the sake of £38 from BMW I'd just replace and investigate later.

Yes I will get both....for the cost i dont think it's worth messing about with cheaper alternatives.
Good plan for now.

It should come with two rubber O rings. They go on the filter housing, coat in a little fresh oil. Filter should just push firmly on until it clicks.

But once you know what filter you need it can be quite a saving. £6.13 delivered on Amazon for a MANN oil filter at the moment.

Hi all, decided to send the car to the zed shed after a great conversation with Mike last week....had a quote to get the car shipped the 81 miles so fingers crossed Mike can work his magic....

Let us know how he gets on..

Will do......its making me so sad seeing it sat there and not being able to drive it...I think its a vanos issue but will wait and see what Mike says

Had the car shipped to Mike at the Zed Shed on the 9th June, on Friday the 13th June the timing chain was replaced as there was lots of wear and play. The car ran ok but then a low oil pressure warning came on and Mike did his checks and found the oil between the piston and the bore 8s NOT good, nor is the bore scoring. At the moment the car is still there, Mike has had some personal issues to deal with but I am not sure what is happening with it at the moment. As soon as I know more I will update you

Sadly both timing chain stretch pre 2015 models and bore score/high oil consumption/low compression on N20s is increasing in frequency…

Got the car back on Friday, chains, vanos and engine rebuilt and is running amazing...Mike has done a great job. Washed the car today, waxed and ceramic coating and it looks amazing. Took it for a run and the rear indicator LED decided to give up the ghost..rear driver side....any ideas? Or is it a replacement job....Euro car parts do a replacement which hopefully will fit

I’m glad you got it fixed and thank you for letting us know. Unfortunately the rear indicator is a known fault and either needs replacing with a new one ( they also have one less mounting point that needs sealing) or there is someone on eBay that repairs them, one thing to note is if you replace with a new one it more than likely won’t match the other side as the original ones will have faded.

What happened about the oil burning? Bore issue?

Rear light wise an eBay Uk guy does exchange items or it’s a new one from Autodoc / Euro car parts..no repair possible

Hiya, had the engine replaced, used the vanos and new chains from mine and some other bits and bobs but it is running great now... has a lot more power and sounds fantastic. This is what i was going to order...hopefully its the right one and easy to fit
