Hello

Looking for a Z4 E89 23i M sport Auto

Preferences
Colour: Silver, Grey, Black
Interior: Red leather, heated seats, idrive
Milage: Low but priority on the condition.
Year: 2011 due to private plate. Shooting myself in the foot as these only ran 09-11.
Budget: around 10k

I just saw that a member, Reamesy, sold one recently. That would have been perfect for me.

Theres one on autotrader that's caught my eye (and local) so any advice on this one would be appreciated.

Thanks

I wouldn't buy an auto.

It looks like all the brake calipers have either been replaced at significant cost, or the car has lived an easy life.

I'm only interested in an auto.

Would I need to be concerned about the calipers, the front two do seem to be in good condition compared to the rears. It's something I didn't even notice tbh.

£6k..£7k tops for any 23i in the current market…

Auto is a great box

Seen several 23i sell for less than £5k

Personally I wouldn’t have a black car, they look lovely when they have just been cleaned but the day after they need cleaning again, plus they are terrible for showing swirl marks, positives are mileage, I drive, and of course the inline 6 cylinder engine (pretty much bump proof), it looks like it’s got the basic sound system, which isn’t great but can be upgraded for a few hundred pounds, nothing major on the MOT history, mainly brake disc’s and tyres,
The 19” 326m wheels are also prone to cracking especially with run flat tyres, although there’s no mention of that in the MOT history, it doesn’t look like it’s got duel zone air conditioning, but it does have cruise control, price wise I don’t think it’s over expensive from a trader but you could probably get better privately, if you go and have a look make sure the roof works perfectly and there’s no signs of water in the boot.

Yeah I'd prefer grey or silver but the next best is black for me, not a fan of white. I did read on the forum about certain rims being prone to cracking, just need to keep that in mind. The price I'm not too sure about, another user said 6-7k tops but there's no M sport on autotrader under 9k apart from one. Saying that, the one I mentioned sold by a forum member was sold for 9.5k but that was obviously maintained extremely well. I think I'll go have a look over the weekend. Thanks, I really appreciate your help.

Several for less than £5k? I haven't seen one auto m sport at that price or anywhere near it. Where did you see them for that price? I'd love to know haha

Mine sold for above 8.5 below 9. 😎👍

The sale price is not the listed price..AT is the home of many day dreamers..most of those cars at those prices simply don't sell..many have been on for months and in some cases years..many are just delisted after no sale..

My first entry this morning into google gave me this..so I'm not quite sure where you're looking

That's a £5k selling car..

Of course peak summer not the best time to go bargain hunting..much better October onwards

That one is a manual which as far as I know are usually quite a bit cheaper than the autos. I hear you about the timing and I'm happy to wait for a good deal but I'm sure I won't be able to get an auto m sport for under 6-7k. I'll be keeping an eye out for any on this forum

An auto 23i shouldn't come with a premium over a manual. There are two distinctive 'camps'. Many would never buy an auto Z4 and many would, so there should be no higher demand for the slushboxes to drive prices up.

As said £9-10k is very salty for a 2011 ish 23i, unless it is a unicorn with no mileage. £8k tops for a really really good one IMO.

Autos have always traditionally cost more to buy new than manuals but are worth less second hand. Mine was probably £800 less than an equivalent manual car.
Quite a few cars these days are only available as an auto.

Historically, factory ordering a new BMW and specifying automatic gearbox would mean a premium of c.£1,500 over a manual.

You know what, I think this car is worth a look if you don't mind paying a bit of a premium (£1,500/£2,000?) to a garage. They need to make a margin and hopefully will provide a decent 12 month warranty. If you can see evidence of a good service history, then that'd provide some reassurance. The car has matching Bridgestone tyres which suggests at least the most recent owner didn't skimp. The wheels have had a decent refurb and perhaps the previous owner simply painted the calipers to make them look fresh. If you can wait, then a decent private car might come up over the next couple of months and you'll save yourself a few bob for sure.

Black cars do need a lot of cleaning to keep them looking good, but black is an easy colour to touch up or repaint a panel. MOT history looks very good, but the alloys need a refurb.

Thanks, I agree with your points. Honestly I'm not quite sure why people are saying autos don't cost more. On AT there are 43 23i's, with only 14 being auto and of those autos only 4 are M sport. So it makes sense they would cost more as they are twice as rare.
I'll take a look at this Z4 but after getting advice I'd say a fair price would be £8.5k, with warranty making the deal more favourable. Either way I wont be blindly throwing ~10k

I'm not sure the gearbox makes much difference to price. Autos are probably rarer because when they were new more people bought a manual 2 seater than an Auto.

Anyway I hope the viewing goes well.

Not only that but black cars dont show the lines as well as other colours. These Z4s look the best in grey imo, love that BMW grey, I even have that on my 1 series haha. Saying that, silver is just as good if not better.

I think its just the rarity. A similar trend with the E85s when I was looking at those a couple of years ago. Thanks 🫡
