Swapping doors, Any advice?

Post by jamiecarpenter » Thu Jul 03, 2025 9:35 pm

Im finally getting around to swapping my rusty door out and putting on the one enuff-zed sold me last year. Has anyone done this? Any advice? The do's and don'ts? Strip the door first or remove the door first? Ive had a look on the forum but havent really found anything on it other than removing wing mirrors or door cards which I have done before.

Thanks in advance Jamie

I think I did a write up on it a few years back

Not the worst job to be fair- alignment and tightening up you could benefit from two pairs of hands

Obvs take care when dealing with the airbag

And passenger side is easier as you have no barrel lock to swap whereas drivers you do

Only done one so far. Found it easy to remove the door complete then transfer everything to the new door before hanging it on.

Thanks for link and tips. Im suprised you put everything back on the door before hanging as thought it may be a struggle with its weight and then alignment? There is two of us doing this so hopefully it goes well.

Spent most of the day doing this today. The door is on. I need to install the membrane but unfortunately the shut lines and window are not aligning. How did you manage to alter these. Also how did you remove the old butyl tape?

I recall shutting the door on the latch then aligning the front 4 bolts making sure all the lines were good

The seal is a bstard: sharp knife and isopropyl alcohol

Window alignment. Take the door handle off, wind the window fully up and you can see the tail of the mounting bolt. Loosen that and you can move the glass about to align it
