Missing Wind deflector - replacement advice

Post by Tussox » Thu Aug 15, 2024 1:17 pm

Hi,
i've a 2009 E89. It didnt come with a wind deflector. I've seen the OEM priced around £500 and cheaper alternative versions.
I guess the ask is, is the OEM necessary? Regarding the alternatives, anyone been using one for a while and can recommend?
i've seen some references to these and that the wind buffering may eventually mark the rollovers where the velcro goes and that clear perspex ones without rubber edges could generate vibrations.
Anyone got some experience please?

Welcome..

I guess it depends on where / how you drive with the top down

At any speed over say 40mph-50mph most solid wind deflectors suffer from some combination of resonance and turbulence..the reason why almost all wind diffuser use a mesh technique is to get around these two issues..

As to how they are fitted the cheap ones look cheap in their fittngs from the few I've seen..

Used OEM ones do pop up on ebay as per here for far less than £500.

Not sure what fixings would be required if any but I'm sure someone can advise.

I purchased mine early on a sunday from eBay. It was £100 BIN or best offer. I just bought it was way cheaper than any others at the time. Bide your time and you'll find one for ~£100 or close to it

i've just purchased this and it seems quite good so far and definitely works. Only ~£30, seems a bargain

That's not for an E89, it's for an E85!
