Hall sensor removal question
First roof problem after 9 years of E89’s so not done bad…
Anyhoo, anyone any tips to get sensor A86 out..? It’s broken a wire which I’ll cut out and splice a new piece in, but I’m not sure how to get the plug end out thats attached underneath the ram…?

Hall sensor removal question
Sure with your diagnose?
I've never heard of an issue with exact this hall sensor.

Hall sensor removal question
I suspected it was this sensor after some research, and at times I could get the roof to open by straightening the wire, but then I couldn’t do that anymore so got Carly on it, code came up with this as well so yes I’m as sure as I can be.RobbiZ4 wrote: Sat Mar 30, 2024 9:22 pm Sure with your diagnose?

Of course I’m open to any suggestions etc, I’m by no means very knowledgeable on this roof, but I seem to have pinpointed it….i think.

The broken wire can't be seen on your pic. On the other end of the brown&yellow wires, the (not visible) hall sensor is plugged into the ram. The two wires are casted in the housings of the hall sensors and can't be "repaired", if teared off.john-e89 wrote: Sat Mar 30, 2024 5:17 pm It’s broken a wire which I’ll cut out and splice a new piece in, but I’m not sure how to get the plug end out[...]
Carly isn't the best choice for this topic, as I had to learn earlier as well.
What exact code did you get? [A688...A6A7]
In order to gain access to/remove this Hall sensor, the entire roof structure must be removed with some tricky readjustments. If at all possible I would avoid it just on suspicion!

Hall sensor removal question
Yeah, it's not the main pillar's hall sensor.
A696 is the hall sensor on the right hydraulic ram in the trunk as shown on my pic. It may be rusty inside and should be replaced by a new one.
Have a look at this thread

Hall sensor removal question
Just check the connector if it's the short lead one. I my car it had pulled out slightly, there was no locking barb molded in for some reason.
I just pushed it fully home and superglued it, no problem since.
I was lucky that time it failed with roof up, boot lid open, so was easy to get to.

You know, much better to replace the 2-pole housing with a new one fo a single Euro than glueing something, that should be renewed each decade (microswitches).flybobbie wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2024 7:18 am I just pushed it fully home and superglued it, no problem since.

Hall sensor removal question
Must be the attachment inside the ram, nothing wrong with the plug. Why does the clam shell start to open then stall…? And it also shuts itself into the final roof up position, it has the characteristics of low oil pressure but I’m getting a fault code as said, low oil wouldn’t throw a code but there must be some electrical signal getting to the ram for it to start to open, and then shut again when asked. Lost…

Hall sensor removal question
My cars loose connector, go as far as boot opens, but then all stops. It would close after short pause.
This is right boot ram.
Here the plug is disconnected.
BMW drew a blue line on the left skt, and more blue on the right plug.
Plug is missing barb to lock it so as the kinematic box, i think it's called moves, it was slight pulling plug apart and roof would stop.
So i pushed it in as far as i could and super glued it.
A lot have been replacing this with the long lead version when error comes up.
Why BMW made this short lead is anyone's guess.

Got round to installing the new hall sensor today, worked first time off the bat so result.
Big thanks all especially to Robbi for the input, doddle of a job when you’re up to speed so I’m grateful.
