2 Series Hall Sensors for Roof Issue

Post by Z4Shane007homas » Tue Jul 25, 2023 1:08 pm

Hi all, I've got a roof problem with my Z4, as per previous thread. I was told that I needed to replace the hall sensors by a forum member here and the forum member said that I can buy hall sensors from a 2 series, which I did along with some other parts.

Can anybody help ? I'm guessing these need to be wired into existing wiring somehow etc, and my lack of knowledge won't get me anywhere. Lol. I have a local company who said they can help but I need the wiring diagram.

Please see attached photo of the problem and the parts I brought. Which I'm hoping is not a waste of my money now.

  • Both hall sensors (HS) are clipped into the right hydraulic ram in the trunk
  • Remove the zip tie from the hydraulic ram, that fixes the rear hall sensors plug. Take a photo before removing it!
  • Shorten the 2 wires of each new hall sensor according to the lenghts of the old hall sensors, they are different
  • Crimp a new pin on each wire
  • Twist both wires to get the wiring a bit more compact
  • Plug both wires into a new housing.
Important: pin orientation is according to he old hall sensors - brown to brown, colour to colour!!. One old HS has a yellow wire, the new one is read. Don't mind, just colour to colour
  • Don't forget to place a new zip tie around the hydraulic ram to fix the plug and the 2x2 wires as initially removed
Cheers Robbi, don't suppose your local to Buckinghamshire and fancy a Sunday job. :D

Well,
Would like to do this easy job for you as I know this kind of fault. Just send a ferry to the nothsea island where I"m currently on vacation. All required tools are onboard. :driving:

The garage needs a tool to get the trunk lid opened in this unusual situation.
Then they will be able to turn the rear(!) brass screw for a max of 1.5 turns to open to be able to lift the trunk lid's frame manually.

Thank you RobbiZ4 - managed to get the hall sensors replaced today and roof is now functioning fine.
