Thumbs up Mr PT
That's a good few of us on the forum now with Silver Grey M Coupes on CSL's, and for good reason 8)

The dwindling exclusivity did cross my mind and then I thought f*ck-it, I want one too. That many people can't be wrong. :D

Road trip? :driving:

Glad you changed your mind! Makes me miss mine

Judging by some of your past posts, I'm sure you'll have a nice 911 before too long!

Got to say, although I am now matching my friend's 997 (C4S) in the engine noise and departments, it is on a different planet dynamically and the sports exhaust is mindblowing. Still noticeably quicker too - even in the dry.

Ye true but costs are going up and up making it a more difficult purchase. When I get back from traveling in may a house is on my priority list so the car will have to take a back seat. Goal is to get one before I'm 30 lol!

Haha the old girl a trend setter with the SG and CSLs

Was my dads E46 M3 that got me into the combo although his was titanium this was my first shoot at 17... christ time flies

But the 911 with turbo alloys is such a tempting proposition. Hopefully I might get the chance to buy this sooner or later.

Whose is the blue coupe? Forum member? Looks pretty good also - CH reps?

I'm a bit late to the party and this thread had passed me by completely!
Firstly, a huge congratulations! Glad to see you've kept some loyalty by having the same colour as your roadster :)
Silver Grey M Coupe with imola leather and piano black dash and OEM CSL's!!!! does it get any better than that! Awesome combination and one I am sure you will never tire of!

Really good write up and nice to hear your comparisons! Glad you're getting to grips with it already and clearly put some miles under your belt. They are a special thing! Really pleased for you!

So, now time to update the signature!

Ex-forum. It's this one - now owned by a mate from work. It's definitely one of the tidiest coupes I've seen - the interior is fantastic and those CH reps look brilliant too.

Great write up buddy
Awesome pics tom!
And I thought I was a camera whore

May I recommend you use sport button and leave it on whilst getting used to car
It's mega sensitive loud pedal will become a joy once you master it in this mode and to me make you drive it better

Then turn it off to cruise

Ps Csls make the car as I lept myself
Hope to see it at zed fest

Bit of a bump. :)

In the two years after last posting in this thread I was mostly just driving it. :driving:

The biggest changes to the car during that period were an experimental move to higher profile tyres (235/40 and 265/35) and the fitting of Vagbremtechnic's lovely front BBK, which is based around a Brembo caliper made for the Aston DB9 and Audi TTRS:

I've covered 20,000 miles since buying the car in late 2015 and it has had four oil services and an Inspection I. I've had two issues - ABS pump failure, replaced with an ECU Tuning refurbished unit, and a leaking A/C system.

The past year has been one of moving out of London, buying a second car, planning a house build and road tripping in other people's cars. Now the zed is back on the road and I have a bit more time, I'm working through a Spring todo list of maintenance and mods:

  • Replace worn KW front spring perch
  • Front suspension clean and refurb
  • Replace front handbrake assembly
  • Replace front lower control arms/balljoints with uprated items
  • Replace front lower control arm (lollipop) bushes
  • Replace front (KW but actually from an E39) top mounts
  • Poly bush front ARB
  • Give up on trying to make 235/40 fronts fit and switch to 245/35 (still with 265/35 rear)
  • Replace RTABs and add TMS limiters
  • Replace rear top mounts
  • Add 6mm rear spring spacers
  • Poly bush rear ARB
  • 4 wheel Hunter alignment
  • Replace engine mount bracket bolts with uprated ones
  • Fit Vibra-Technics (fast road) engine mounts
  • Install rear dash cam
  • Repair and re-install front undertray
  • Glass polish front windscreen
  • Remove and clean Eventuri filter
  • Fit braided rear hoses
  • Fit GROM BT3
  • Get the car weighed

I have all the parts already, so thought that if I posted the list here it would add a bit more peer pressure/incentive to get it all sorted.

But still... *gulp* :?

A long list, but you are getting close to half-way now!

I hope you manage to make some progress on the rest now the days are a bit longer.

Stunning MC by the way!

Thanks. How is your ///M search going? You might find the first page of this thread dangerous reading.

Made a big ol’ dent in the list today. Rear shocks out and cleaned up, new top mounts fitted, spring perch spacers on and RTAB carriers out for fitting of the limiters.

Two pain-in-the-ass areas - getting access to remove the RTAB carriers and torquing up the strut top mount so that it aligns perfectly with the adjuster dial.

Pressed the old RTABs out today. They looked fine and I thought I’d wasted money on replacements, but then I noticed how squishy they were compared to the new ones. You could easily press the two halves of the metal casing together so that they touched in the middle.

The TMS limiter kit is really well made and fitting the limiters into the bush carriers was pretty straightforward (although a pillar drill helped, for sure).

Installation and reassembly was a lot easier than disassembly. The only sketchy bit was getting the right preload on the RTABs and torquing 100Nm across a freely suspended trailing arm.

Alignment tomorrow!

Proper dorifto geometry after replacing lots of bits!

Doesn’t actually feel too bad but I think I’m going to ask for the CSL specs plus rear toe somewhere between the Z4MC and CSL specs.

One thing I was a bit confused by is how I have >-1.50 camber on the front with just the camber pins pulled. :?

It's on hold for now - I decided to upgrade my daily first! Mainly because I still get a buzz driving my Z4C, but not so much my daily - which I use more!

So 330i has arrived, and 325i will be going.

For the official record!

Spent quite a bit of cash and lost a lot of skin off my knuckles in the process, but the car is feeling pretty frickin' awesome now. Still got the engine mounts to come, tomorrow... :)

Mounts in.

IMG_0609.jpg

Old ones were in surprisingly good condition with only very slight compression on the driver's side.

The vibratechs do look good... provide a good feel, noticed much difference?

I’ll be honest, the chances of me being able to pick out the handling differences made by the mounts was always going to be pretty low! I’ve changed so many things in a short period of time. I can tell that there is a little more vibration on cold start and at idle, for sure - not much, but noticeable.

I’ll have to report back re. the handling once I’ve had the chance to chuck it about a bit. I do get the occasional 3rd gear denial when pressing on and have always felt the difference in weight over the front wheels in this car vs. the si I had before.

The geo, on the other hand, has made a massive difference. Just popped out for a 30 minute blast this evening and was grinning like an idiot the whole time. :)
