Hot Off The Press News - VANOS Bolt Recall!!!!!

Just got off the phone with my local BMW dealer. BMW have recalled at least one component for the Vanos recall.
This means that anyone currently booked in will be having their recall cancelled for the time being. And anyone who has had theirs done already will probably have to take it back at some point to be done again once the new issue is resolved.

:!: This is the information I've just been told, I have no reason to doubt it is correct. He checked, while I was on the phone originally, that they had the parts in stock, so I don't think it's because they no longer have them or have run out. :!:

Not trying to scaremonger, just a heads-up

M owners be like 'vanos bolts you say.... Come here chaps, come sit with us'

Mine was due today.
Booked into the garage then headed off for a coffee.
Phone call 10 minutes later apologising saying it was a 2 day job.
Had to reschedule in October .. hope they get the issue resolved before then.

The service manager said he'd update me before next Thursday, so once I know anything I'll let you all know

OK, so regarding the actually job, it is a one day job that can turn into a three day job depending if they need to reset anything after the parts swap. EG; if it's slightly out of adjustment then they'll need to reset it up correctly. They should all know this if they read the service bulletin, as my guy did because he wasn't initially aware of it. This means that if you require a courtesy car then they need to allow for this possible extension from the start. Mine is provisionally being re-booked for November now so he's made sure the courtesy car is available still

As stated mines in Oct 3rd (well see) I'm told a whole day. Courtesy car supplied. Will check on Monday for an update any change will advise.

Surprised a 2009 car is on call back, thought they all fell in the 2011 year.
My bus. partners car was a 2011 and had it done in 2012.
So not a new problem, unless the fuked up first time around.

Booked in at Chester BMW. Was told immediately it was a two day job and courtesy car offered. šŸ‘

Does this mean my 2011 3.0 needs to be done a second time? It was originally done in 2013....

BMW AG is conducting a Voluntary Safety Recall (effective October 23, 2023) on a certain number of Model Year 2010 - 2013 BMW vehicles that were produced between September 2, 2009, and July 12, 2012.
The VANOS assembly (engine) bolts may, over time, loosen, and eventually break. If this occurred, a reduced engine power ā€œsafe modeā€ may be activated. In some cases, the engine may not be able to be restarted after switching off and, in rare cases, the engine could stall which could increase the risk of a crash.
The Recall Notice and Q&A have been attached for further information. The bulletin will be updated when additional information becomes available.
Sincerely, Technical Service

Just check the government's MOT website to see if a recall is outstanding on your car.

Mines booked in Wednesday 25th with Sytner Sheffield - they need it all day and have not offered a courtesy car. Tbh I didn't request one as from past experience it's more trouble than it's worth and I don't need one.

Anyway it's not been cancelled yet so let's see.

Had the call this morning - the appointment has been cancelled due to a worldwide shortage on the necessary parts.

The job is now in a pending recall queue and BMW will contact me once the parts on order become available.

Booked in at BMW Dick Lovett Swindon for Oct 3rd .Quick call today to check if any problems, confirmed parts are available and all ok for the 3rd.

Had a call from Sytner yesterday to inform me the required parts are now back in stock so mines booked in for the 31st - this was their next available appointment

Ironically I had mine booked in at Tamworth for tomorrow

Head office as I spoke to them checked Tamworth had the parts

Had a call today to cancel as the parts are in Germany & don’t call us we will call you
