35is Pulled 15 Car Lengths on an M?

Hey all,

So recently I was cruising with a friend in his 35is, along side came a Z4M, so both cars proceeded to do a short pull. The 35is pulled way way in front of the Z4M, 15 + car lengths. The 35is and Z4M have similar power, I was surprised by the result, why is the 35is so much faster? My friends 35is is stock for reference.

Cheers

prob cos the M driver didn't want to knacker his engine and drivetrain in a pointless excercise of machismo and stupidity?

The Z4M was going full chat for sure. The engine sounded sweet, and it pulled ahead until the turbos kicked in.

So, in other words, he'd already proved his point and then backed off so your friend didn't feel so bad :poke:

...although the 35is will have gobs (70lbft) more torque than a Z4M and will be as quick in a STRAIGHT line.

Just keep an emergency number handy if they try the same thing through the twisties :fuelfire:

Had both and the 35is always felt quicker...

Not 15 car lengths quicker but the turbo motor has power everywhere whereas the M car needs its neck wringing.

A 35is on non run flats will keep an M honest in the twisties too, you’ll just s**t yourself doing it though due to understeer then oversteer....but it will keep up.

So the other day I pulled up alongside a 35is and couldn't resist the obvious - showed him the way early doors until I had to pull over to pick up my old mum. Not sure how much further he got before he realised it was all over

The ///M supposedly has 365 nm torque, 0-60 mph 4.6 sec, quarter mile 13.7 @ 107 mph,
The 35is has 500 nm torque, 0-60 mph 4.5 sec, quarter mile in 13.3 @ 111

I used to love Top Trumps as a kid :play:

That’s just a temporary overboost torque figure that’s not maintained i believe? Although i think it plateaus out to a higher level than the M car :?

Judging by the responses here it seems like its not a surprise that the 35is driver put 15 car lengths on the Z4M. I spoke to my friend, and he actually said he only went 75% throttle when he smoked the Z4M.

Anyhow, both great cars :)

0.4s of a difference over 1/4 mile.

15 car lengths ?

0.4s difference, where the manual Z4M was driven by a professional driver at the strip.
There is much less variance in drag times for an Auto vs the manual which depends on the driver

Sooooo you were hitting speeds much higher than 0-60 I’m guessing?

I could not see the speedo as my mate was driving. All I could see was the Z4M driver behind us with his head between his hands after defeat, and his misses consoling him
