Vanne's lightweight/ interior modification thread

Decided to start a new thread, as things just went up a notch. If you guys don't mind I might repost a few of the previous post, but this is just to keep a record for myself and hopefully provide some info to others.

It'll be a mess in here for a bit... Please bear with me, and you can always pass some time by singing the "Your so Vanne" song. Lol

Anyways, on with the strip.

As my car is pre-dominetly a track car, I am not too fussed on what's in it, or what isn't, and above all, function over form.

The strip out of my car started a few weeks back and slowly but surely more and more stuff I am finding I have completely no use for in my car.

Stereo, it's never on in my car.. ever.
Nav.. oh how I wish my car didn't have the pop up screen.

So I decided to start with these and anything else that I came across as the weight reduction went on that wasn't required (required is car still starts and runs and no codes that are unsolvable thrown)

Is it purely about the weight? Nope, I am a minimalist at heart and I love clean lines and I hate just having stuff because the majority of people might want said crap in there car.

nav and Audio:
04.8 lbs-Harness
01.0 lbs-misc brackets
04.2 lbs-2 Kick panel Speakers
14.2 lbs-2 Rear subwoofers
00.2 lbs-GPS antenna
09.0 lbs-Amps/amp brackets
03.4 lbs-4 mid range speakers
00.2 lbs-2 tweeters
03.6 lbs-GPS/DVD drive
02.4 lbs-Pop-up display
02.6 lbs-Head unit

Roof discussion.

No its steel. weighed mine today, its 9 KGS. (mine was 9.0, as it had been painted black) so total weight loss is 7KGS. plus or minus a few grams. Still a pretty darn good weight savings for up top.

My bad for quoting said 17Kgs.. the other pieces on the list are sound though.

A lot of progress has taken place. Lots of stuff removed and next will be the door cards.. the dash will also make its way out for a little bit, but that will be in a little bit, I'll need to form the door cards first.

You might find that the decorative dashboard slab wrapped in leather alone, despite being aluminium cast, weights a good fair amount. Dead easy to remove, too

What shifter kit is that? Was it a bolt on mod or did anything need cutting to fit on the car? Looks lovely!

First rough sketch..

7eYXuCE.jpg

Materials: backing panel will be 3 ply. The upper arm rest/where the skin will meet the glass will be balsa covered in glass resin. And a heatly dose of Alcantara.
And some Porsche RS3 door pulls. The upper arm rest (it's not really an arm rest as it's much too high for that) will offset at the rear of the skin by 35 mm going to level with door skin at the front of the door skin.

Should be pretty darn light.

Jaw, thx matey, no.. no target weight, just anything i am coming across that i don't need is getting the heave-ho!. id love to pull the air-con, but i need that :( i don't however need the heating system, so thats getting chucked/ blocked off.

srhutch, dash is coming out, but same dash will go back in, although completely different/modified/stripped. you can safely assume that the in-dash pop-up display will not be making a grand return... ever!!!

Vanne, huge respect for the work, but got to ask....why didn't you just buy a GT3...? Is it more the fun of the project, or do you want a proper performance-focused car?
