UPDATE:

Hi folks,

I got an update from Trumps this week, here are the final prices:

Parts:
  • Projectors £155
  • Brackets £45
  • Postage £6.50 within the uk or £14 outside.

10% off parts for those who say "Lucas" sent them.
Discount on projectors and brackets if bought in one go, brackets can be supplied on their own but no discount will be given.

Labour (optional):
  • Cutting projectors and setting up brackets £40
  • Full installation £80 (in addition to the £40 for trimming so £120 labour)

A picture will be supplied if someone wants to trim the projectors at home themselves.

Other upgrades (optional):

  • CBI bulbs £70
  • Nightbreakers £85
  • Cool Blue Boosts £95
Bulbs are Osrams; we only recommend Osram or Philips be fitted.

My car has halogens, does this fit?
  • If you have a halogen car then Hylux D2S ballasts can be supplied for £120 a set.

Kits can be ready to roll from Wednesday 27/111/19 (I have 10 sets of brackets ready)

If an order is to be placed please email [email protected], any questions can be emailed in too.

ORIGINAL POST:

Hi everyone,

Since getting my current Z4, which has factory bi-xenons, I complained about how crappy they are. In August I bought Morimoto D2S Mini 5s from Morimoto's only UK supplier, EM Tuning, and tried installing them. I was not at all pleased with the fitment as the entire projector was essentially hidden inside the headlights, so it looked horrible, but light output still impressive.

EM Tuning agreed to work with me and modify the projectors so they would fit the headlights perfectly and look like the OEM projector or better. We managed this and I convinced him to send me some special prices for forum members who wish to do the same.

Here's a video of the final result:

If anyone is interested in doing this, I can write a how to with lots of photos on what needs to be modified (requires some cutting), and how to install the kit (easy). Here's the price directly from EM Tuning, which includes a service in which EM Tuning would send an already cut projector and all you'd need to do is installing it:
Hi Lucas,

Sorry for the delay.
  • Morimoto D2S 5.0 Bi Xenon projectors - £155
  • Z4 specific brackets with bolt kit - £45
  • Optional Trimming and bracket setup service to make it fully plug and play - £40

Discount of 10% before shipping costs, cost within the UK is £6.50 for postage.

I'll update this post later with some photos. I'm giving EM Tuning a shout out because the guy was simply brilliant trying to help me. I did not get the discount and paid full price. The only thing I got from this was his help making the projectors fit perfectly.

Oooh, looks good. I’ve upgraded my Xenons with LED and they are very bright, but don’t dazzle and the cut off is great. I’ll get a vid up tomorrow for comparison.

Fantastic work! I especially like the bit where you hit that poor house full of sleeping children and old grannies with the full 100 megaton nuclear blast. :D

I’m really tempted at that price. My hesitation being due to the fact that I don’t really drive the car in the dark!

Just changed your xenon to an LED bulb or did you go for a Morimoto LED projector?

That was completely unintentional! I don't need to use high beams anymore, because main beams just reach so far ahead, only if I need to see more vertically, which hardly ever happens.

I got these mainly for a good night time hoon -- roads are completely empty and police is a lot less likely to be lurking around a corner with a radar gun. Doing this during summer is more dangerous than winter... Too many foxes where I live.

Wow - looks brilliant (No pun intended :D ) Would definitely be interested if it's easy to do...

If you buy the plug and play kit is certainly very easy to do, only four nuts and one two pin connector to remove. And the cutting doesn't add any complexity to the job, just an extra step and the fear of screwing up a £155 part

That looks like a greatresult.

Just a shame my current Z4 doesn't have Xenons. :(

A simple LED conversion kit would do wonders in comparison to the halogens! And it's much cheaper than the kit above. Shame those kits aren't compatible with the bi-xenon headlight, otherwise I would have gone for those.

Thanks, that's interesting - something to consider maybe.

But to be fair if I'm driving after dark it's usually in my 3 Series, which luckily does have Bi-Xenons! And I don't fancy trying to get to those - just changing an angel eye was a right PITA.

Hmm shame, I bought a pair of Morimoto D2S Mini 5s a few months ago to do the conversion. Not got round to it yet, is this modification retro fittable?
(if such a word exists) :)

Indeed it would be. You just need the "Z4 specific brackets with bolt kit - £45" from EM Tuning, and the cuttings you can do yourself. It seems there's a good interest here, so I'll make a how-to guide.

lol. Or the crack heads got a shock..
Result looks great, but to be fair I've always thought the lights were ok, not that I use the car much at night either.
Is the cutting required on the bracket or something on the oe light?

Cutting on the Morimoto Projector back plate. Headlights are virtually untouched and OEM projectors could be installed back at any point

Thats wonderful news thanks. I can't see where it is their website though, am I being thick (no, that was a hypothetical question  )
Can you provide a link?

It is not on his website yet. He sent me an email, and if there's interest here, he'll create a special forum code and put the kit up for sale there. I'll keep you updated.

Count me in; just moved across the country and now using it to commute until I can get my hands on a new daily. Scottish winter nights and mornings - so I could use some extra light!

Do you know if they do a drive in and drive out service aswell? Wouldnt mind paying the labour to get it sorted properly first time round.
