ZMC in Evo magazine

The November issue has the ZMC against a cayman, tvr and emira. They make the point that all are great “end of an era” type cars so all good then! The ZM gets a fair write up and predictably falls short on subtlety and gets wasted by both the Cayman and the lotus. But then the article says in the small print that the zed is £15-£25k and the Cayman is twice that. In short, nothing new (the zed is a hot rod) but good to see nonetheless.

That outcome sounds predictable given that the Emira is a much later design, and the Cayman may have been depending upon which model they used for their comparison.

Most reviewers found the Cayman far more capable, but not as edgy as the Z4M. Which is one of the things I love about mine! :D

The way Emiras are falling in value, they will be the 'cheapest option' soon.

Such a shame. If only Lotus had paid a bit more attention to the important things.....like paint and putting them together, they could have been the last of a great breed of ICE cars.

I would still have an Emira over anything else for the money, despite their 'issues', though.

As good as they look I wouldn't pay that sort of money for a car with a fibreglass body - too kit car for my liking.

And I wouldn't want a boosted 4 cylinder Mercedes engine or a Toyota V6 that needed a turbo to give some decent performance. Neither will ever come close to sounding as fantastic as an S54 heading for the red-line!

Evo is still going then. Without the S54 the other two don't even get a lookin from me. I mean even Hammond could drive a cayman.

Looks like an Evora 410, 981 GT4 and a TVR T350.

Not sure what a T350 costs these days but the other 2 are knocking on for triple the cost of a decent Z4M. That’s a lot of rod bearings!

The Lotus has a supercharged V6, not turbo, and it sounds phenomenal at full chat. It is made of plastic though, that I can’t dispute!

Outcomes sound about right - nice of them to include the Z4 to represent the "00s" instead of an earlier Cayman!

From the pics it looks like they've tested the Z4M with 19" wheels. Doesn't that break some kind of sacred, ancient car reviewers code?! :D

For reference.

Nice the Z4M is being put with a few more exotics shows how they think it fits in this category with more focused cars like the TVR and GT4.

The Speed 6 engine sounds awesome and is lovely to use in the TVR(I've tried that engine in a Cerbera)...when it works anyway! 😂

Get subbed :D

I had almost every copy from issue 10 to 300. Took them all to the Tip, about a 18months ago. Lost it's appeal for me after Harry sold out and it became corporate, full of 4x4s and EV's:tumbleweed: I kept a few favourites. ;)

Sorry in my haste I called the Evora the later Emira. But yes the ZM was up against cars that arguably are a step up. And they forgave the CSL wheels as they said it was an option that BMW should have offered at the outset. So they let it off…..is the owner on here?

I don’t buy Evo any more and sold my issue one a few years ago for about £30. I bought this as I saw a ZM on the cover while perusing Smiths on our way to Spain. Had to be done!
