Hi everyone...
so trying to sort out a fw things for my zed.... a few things being bought and will post pics etc as I change them.

My zed is in amazing shape inside, except for two things.... the first is the gear knob (pic below), the other one is the internal door handles. Now I know everyone talks about ZHP's and how much better they are etc etc... and thats great, i'd get one, but I am not that keen on the //M .... as I don't own an M! (I gather the whole point of the ZHP is because it is an //M piece?) ........so my question, will the emblem from my old gear knob fit into the ZHP?

If not, do I have to simply accept that to have a nice gear shifter I have to have //M on it? To those that have them, will I even notice it?

many thanks

Wouldn't worry about the ///M logo to be honest, the ZHP knob isn't even fitted to the Z4M anyway :)

I feel the same as the OP - my car is not an M so I don't want the gaudy M logo on it (let's face it, the M badge is gaudy if it's not on an M car).

You can get the ZHP knob in a non-M version from Leather Z, however it's almost double the price IIRC and IMO simply not warranted.

Good idea about swapping out the gate diagrams though. I imagine it would be tricky getting the one off the old knob...

I hear what you are saying wondermike - and I may just get one anyway.... but before that ...

guys - loads of you have changed to ZHP's.... has anyone kept their OEM knob and able to cut out a template in paper of the old one's emblem (size and shape) and offer it up to the ZHP to see if it would fit ?? ....

pretty please ??

If you don't want a zhp my old knob is up for grabs still like brand new.. I'll have a look tomorrow and see if the old badge will fit and let you know :D

hi there - thanks for offering to do that for me ... most kind :D

can you send me a pm about your OEm one please. many thanks

Some of the "chrome effect" coating is coming off of my gear knob too. I've not actually looked too close yet but how do you remove the original knob? Is it screwed on? Is there a grub screw somewhere or is it just a case of pulling hard?

chris

Just pull hard upwards but be warned dont put your head over it or you may end up with two black eyes when you hit you self in the face with it.

the M logo is just the motorsport dept of bmw dont see a problem having it on parts would never put them on the boot or wings but mines got it on the wheels , steering wheel and the zhp , they are M parts so why not ? :P

why not indeed :D I don't have a problem with //M parts , its just that I would rather not have the logo in an interior that is only silver/black, as much as anything coz it would stand out a mile. Hence why I asked about swapping the OEM emblem into what is a agreed to be a better gear knob.
